3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle poured into pint glass. True to it’s name, this is a dark brown beer with a paper-thin light brown head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma is rich caramel and chocolate. The taste follows the nose, though it seems a bit less rich than the scent. Smooth, ever-so-slightly creamy feel. I would have hoped for a bit more taste, but otherwise a pretty decent brew.

Tap, ADT. Clear amber brown with a small off-white head. Nuts, caramel, light-roasted malt, cocoa. Mildly sweet. Moderate carb and nicely balanced toasted malt finish. Excellent - does Bell's make any bad beer? oobawa (1642) - Tennessee, USA - SEP 27, 2017
Straightforward American brown ale, the unofficial benchmark for the style, mixing a subtle malt sweetness with a firm but restrained hop finish. Caramel, mixed nuts and a hint of chocolate sit on top of a slight English-style yeasty fruitiness, while the finish grows dry and bready, pine mixing with toast and bitter almonds. Pours a lovely hazed brown with orange edges, giving up a modest off-white head and slight lacing. Nose reminds me of pregaming and postgaming, like football and autumn evenings in a glass. I feel like I've somewhat outgrown this beer--around a decade ago it was one of my go-to brews; now it's more of a nostalgia trip (can't believe I've never logged it)--but still a nice pint.

I love this beer. I had this paired with a rich chicken curry and rice and the depth of flavor in this was out of bounds. Bells makes some of the better beers I've tasted and this one was up there with the some of the best Carlisle (786) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 11, 2017

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2017 Pours a rich mahogany Brown. Nose is roasted almonds and candied pecans. Malty, rich, caramel and toffee. Tasty brew.i DarkMagus (549) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 3, 2017
Pours a reddish brown color with a proud-looking and long-lasting tan head. Aroma of caramel, hint of coffee, some light fruity esters, and a bit of toasty malt sweetness. Flavors were rich and balanced between toasty malts and earthy/bitter hops. Lots of toasted malt, caramel, coffee, earthy pine, and a bit of sweetness. Astringent finish due to the heavy use of hops. Light to medium bodied, very drinkable, a great American brown ale!
