COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, toasty brown ale, Best Brown Ale is a mainstay in our fall & winter lineup. With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

I am actually drinking one of these right now, and I must say that it was another let down. I like a lot of the Bell's beers, but this one just isn't up to par. I would rather have a Newcastle anyday over this. The smell is not even really a brown smell, it is more like a stout.

Large, creamy head, slightly off-white, atop a fairly opaque waltnut-colored body. Hazelnut/caramel aroma. Flavor somewhat of a disappointment; nuttiness and malt there, as well as a little bit of wine, but it seems a little poorly balanced to me; just a tad over-sweet at the front and then edging to sour at the end. Average finish. Certainly worth trying, above average brown ale; just a downer compared to the best from this brewery.

Not much head from the tap, but some yeast floaties, which seemed a bit odd. Light aroma of sweet malt, but nothing too spectacular. Sweet, watery, slightly caramel front with a dry end. Not at all as rich as I expected, but a nice Fall thirst quencher.

Pretty brew, nice deep red-brown color. Nose is roasty coffee with a bit of sweetness. Good roast malts, and a pleasantly hoppier finish than expected.

Big mealy nose, all malt. Big voluptuous light tan head. Big rich orange brown amber hue. In all honesty i feel this brew tastes and smells like pea soup. Hehe...Sweet maltiness, medium bodied, firm nuttyness and pleasant bitter finish. Nicely balanced, well done.

Decent beer. Rich and bitter. Malty. Robust. The head didn't last that long. I had it somewhat chilled but I'm sure if it warmed up there would be more release of the flavour

Pours out of the bottle a dark brown color, rather cloudy, with a large, creamy white head and lots of bubbles. Aroma is malty and creamy with a bit of sweetness coming through. The taste is very bitter when it's cold, let it warm up just a bit before drinking. Flavor is malty, with only a bit of sweetness, and a bitterness lurking throughout the taste that I just don't feel quite goes with the style. A thicker mouthfeel than some brews of this style, which helps soak up some of the bitterness. A decent brown ale, though not at all the best.

found this hiding in Waynes Deli in Muskegon, while i was home, it was rich and bitter and rather malty, the "best" quality of it was the nutty flavor that was running around in the beer, i think the word best should be taken out of the title, it was ok but not the best

10/11/03: bottle Good full body, good flavor, almost nutty flavor, dark brown color, excellent ale.

Poured a dark ruby color with a small off white head and some lacing. Caramel malt and bready aroma. Sweet malt, almost cloying, slightly bitter aftertaste. This is a decent brown.
