Dark and malty, tad bitter. Not my bag. Has a nutty finish. Nice aroma, though. thehoff (598) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - OCT 8, 2003
Dark apple cider brown color. No head. Smells sweet, rich, slight bitterness to the taste. Smooth and tangy? Lot of carbonation. Nice flavor and full body, lots of sediment. Slight bitterness in the back of the throat. Goblincat (399) - Petersburg, Michigan, USA - OCT 24, 2004
Pours brown. Nose is hops and toasted nuts. The taste is very smooth, rich, nutty, malty... odd and interesting at the same time. hotstuff (5158) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 14, 2005
On tap at Bells. Poured a small tan head that completely diminished, good lacing, fine-small sized bubbles, uncarbonated, transparent, and an orange brown hue. The aroma was malty, very mild hops and caramel. Sweet, malty and caramel flavor. Smooth palate. Light-medium body. MIBRomeo (2570) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 5, 2005
pours a copperish color w/ a small quickly dissapating off white head.
A fair hop aroma w/ a bit of carmel malt and a nice nut/wood scent. Palate is a bit acidic w/ some nice carbonation and a pretty solid coating for a brown ale. Light nut/carmel/hop in the flavor w/ a floral finish fairly light. Overall the beer was a solid brown ale but paled in comparison to the big Imperial stout i had in front of it.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2011 Rerate. Draft. Deep amber, approach brown body. Thick, frothy, off-white head, slowly diminishing. Malty aroma with notes of nuts, caramel, bread and a hint of roastiness. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter, a bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. Thin to medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Thin body doesn’t play well with the malty tastes. Standard fare. JFGrind (2047) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2005
Interesting choice for an autunm beer from Bell’s. Belgian styled brown ale with generous heap of alcohol builds an agreeable cold weather beer. Nice beer to have after a tobbagan run in Kalamazoo. KimJohansen (10492) - Frederiksberg C, DENMARK - MAR 26, 2008
Clear brown with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and ripe fruits. Sweet flavor with notes of yeast, caramel, roasted malt and fruits. Ends bitter. StefanSD (2451) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - APR 10, 2008
12 oz bottle courtesy of Linus stick. Pours a cloudy murky chestnut brown with a small off-white head. The aroma is medium in strength with raisins and lightly roasted malts. The flavor shows some dates, plums and chocolate malts. The mouthfeel was a bit light. The finish was short and dry. Overall: A very session-able brew. This would be a great everyday beer if I could get it everyday. phishpond417 (2088) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - APR 21, 2008
Tasty beer! Pours a dark amber colour, full off white head. Has a pleasent toasted aroma, caramel, licorice and bread in the taste. Clean hop finish. Hearty and filling, great for making that transition into the cool fall months.
