COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

On tap at Hagemeister Park in Green Bay for Bells tap takeover. Poured syrupy black and had nice brown head. Aroma is phenomenal, sweet chocolate/coffee scent with black licorice and leather mixed in. Has a oily rich heavy mouthfeel and goes down smooth as silk. Taste is sweet yet salty with black licorice, chocolate, coffee and anise. Finish is somewhat dry and mild aftertaste. Overall this beer is amazing. Reminds me of the first time I tasted Expedition Stout back in 2008. This beer is sweeter and has that dry finish but otherwise the same. Please try this beer if you get a chance, you won’t regret it!

Bottle - 2012 vintage: Near black in appearance, with a rich brown head that quickly fades away. The aroma is quite impressive. Very rich and deep with vanilla, oak, espresso, and chocolate. Passes right on into the flavor. The influence of the barrel aging is spot on. Smooth and silky mouthfull. Really really nice... one of my new favorites. Thanks to Overml01 for the trade!

Pours black with a creamy brown head and fair lacing. Good roasted malt, licorice and woody bourbon aroma. Full body with a smooth texture. Complex sweet stout flavor with a smooth bourbon woody finish. Very well balanced. One of my all time favorites

750ml Bottle @ The Stouts Tasting Pt II. Deep brown pour with a tiny off-white head. Quite a muscular, thick-looking beer. The nose is huge vanilla and bourbon. Sugar-coated wood. Boozy adult brownie. Rich char. Unmistakable bourbon barrel. The taste is similarly out-sized, bold. Rich toffee and chocolate cake. Sticky toffee pudding. More vanilla and treacle. Thick, smooth body. Pretty effortless for 10.5%. Overall, a really nice beer. The internet seemed to give this beer a minor kicking after Bells released it in 12oz bottles. On this showing, Black Note is only deserving of praise. Great stuff.

From a bottle. Pours opaque almost black with minimal light brown head. Very smooth. Tastes very sweet like chocolate, caramel, raisins. Smells sweet and toasty. Medium body and low carbonation.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with just a trace of thin, fizzy tan. Aroma is bourbon, oak, roasted malts, plums, raisins, vanilla, floral hops, and light chocolate. Flavor is sweet and roast malts forward with supporting bourbon, oak, dark fruit esters, and light floral hops; dry, lightly sweet finish. Medium/full body and low carbonation.

Bottle consumed at THE stouts tasting part 2, thanks to Bruce. It pours near black with a small light tan head. The nose is chocolate, gateaux, dark fruit, vanilla, toasted coconut, bourbon and sweet coffee. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, toast, bourbon, light warming alcohol, mild acidity, some bitterness, earth and baking chocolate with a bitter, ashy finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Very smooth, well-balanced and surprisingly drinkable. Good stuff.

12 FL OZ bottle shared with Shawn at his Somerville flat. Thanks, man. Picked from the "goofball cellar". I can’t be certain, but I believe it was a 2012. Hmmm... this may be indeed overhyped.Perhaps this was a bogus year, as often are: it could have been a bad bottle; infected, maybe? Regardless, it just wasn’t very good. Considerably too malty, roasted, and ashy. Booze was very prominent, perhaps too much so. Couldn’t finish. I couldn’t wait to try the next beer.
