COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the most sought-after stouts in Bell’s history, Black Note Stout blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout, each aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The resulting harmony of flavors captures the finest features of all three components: malty notes of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruits, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout and bourbon aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Bottle brought by Max, who wanted to be WinnerOfTheTasting, to Paul’s when we met up at Paul’s to watch some fetusballs. Pours a deep black without much of a head. Soft roast on the nose, a touch of cocoa, chocolate, warm roast and brownies. Medium-bodied, roast, cocoa, chocolate, cocoa. Long cocoa on the finish, bitter baking chocolate. Beautiful.

"1st off, big thanks to Heybeerman for steppin up and sending me this gem. Split a bottle 3 1/2 ways last night, and will probably revisit when I have a full bottle, by itself, one day soon. My original impression, just from the the aroma was that this was leaning slightly more towards the Double Cream Stout than Expedition, and that turned out to be true in the flavor as well. But both beers are there, giving this a nice rich body, and layers of complexity. The barreling was also a little more prevelant than expected. I really have to nit pick to find anything "wrong" with this beer, but if I had to say something, gimme a tiny bit more expedition and a tiny bit less barrel, and this bad boy may get a perfect 5. Sooooooo smooth and tasty. Held it’s own with a nice batch of Speedway and BA Speedway, two of my favorites."

Big thanks to egajdzis for sharing this gem! Poured a dark black color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, wood, caramel, smoke, dark fruits, and roast. Very complex and I was getting something different every time I took a whiff. Tastes of vanilla, caramel, bourbon, lightly vinous, chocolate, and roast. Creamy and smooth body. I was I had a whole growler of this one!

Bottle 24 of 1081. Virtually no head on black, looks like a wine. carbonation still there though understated.Smooth mouthfeel. Rich bourbon, not overpowering but substantial. Chocolate and coconut, some mustiness. Better as it aired.FlandersNed, thanks for not putting it up on ebay. My bottle shared with Liam.

Bottle. Thanks Hallinghansen. Pours deep black with a medium, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has luscious chocolate, light coffee, lots of vanilla and Bourbon. Low carbonation, fine dry and very creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has mild roasted notes, hazelnuts, vanilla, chocolate. Again kinda fat and luscious. Fairly sweet in the middle, but fine viniousness to balance. Okay malty bitter finish. Kinda chewy. Very nice and balanced.

Sampled from the tap at the 2010 GTMW. Poured black with a rusty brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma had a sweet cream note as well as roasted malts, dark grain, chocolate and a hint of licorice. Flavor was similar with dark malts and sweet cream at the start with growing roasted malts and dark chocolate. Amazingly smooth.

Bottle. Dark chocolate malt, prune, and bourbon aroma. Black with no head. Sweet chocolate raisin malt and moderately bitter herbal and alcohol flavor. Very nice malty aftertaste. A bit rough - still nice beer though.
