bottle, thanks to miketd
To the shock of no one, it’s a dark brown/black pour w/ a cocoa colored head.
Very tasty, the bourbon/vanilla/oak pairs very nicely with the tart cherry flavor. Notes of chocolate are also in the nose.
Definitely would like to have this one again. wmubronco1992 (709) - Coldwater, Michigan, USA - JUL 11, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 19, 2010 Batch #7777 - Rerate of 7/2008 rating. Just pulled a bottle out of the cellar. Wow after 36 months this has aged nicely. Ridiculously huge bourbon aroma followed by intense tart chocolate cherry flavor. I’ve never held on to something this long. Simply amazing. I’m actually in awe. One more bottle left from orginal. ORIGINAL rating - Pours black with a dark brown head. Strong tart cherry flavor balanced out with hints of chocolate and coffee. Lots of carbonation for a stout, but it works well and gives it a unique feel when it goes against the natural creamy flavor of the stout. Very well done beer. Look forward to finding this one again. hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 9, 2008
Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pours black with a small, creamy, beige head. Great retention. Earthy, fruity nose. Acidic cherries, bourbon, vanilla, coffee and mild chocolate. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. The flavor is acidic, but balanced nicely. Cherry and bourbon tartness; oaken earthiness; coffee ground and charcoal bitterness and chocolate malt sweetness... thoughtfully melded together. Tangy, lightly bitter, toasted finish. This world class beer was provided by scubarex! xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - JUL 8, 2008
BTW 17thfloor, that bottle was for you. 12oz bottle straight from bells. Opaque back with thick medium burnt brown head. Aroma is bourbon, big cherry from both the barrel and base beer, alc, big roasted malt, dark chocolate, sweet but well balanced. Big cherry and chocolate flavor, dark fruit, alc but not harsh, infact barrel is really well balanced with the cherry stout, biggest flavor to me is milk chocolate covered raisins, sweet roasted malt as well. Medium to full creamy body. An excelent beer that tastes amazing now but will improve with age as well. SuperDave (1932) - Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA - JUL 8, 2008
Sampled at Bockyhorsey’s Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Pours a deep black with a big foamy tan head. Aroma of wood and cherries with a touch of chocolate and funkiness. Flavor of roasted malt and chocolate with a big cherry bourbon finish. Absolutely fantastic. Like a giant dark chocolate covered cherry exploding in your mouth.

Sampled at Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. This beer had a barnyard along with some barrel wood. Black body with tan head. Good cheey fruit flavor, thick sweet body texture. Smooth on the palate with a aftertaste of cherry wood lingering. Good beer. Sparky (2244) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUL 7, 2008
Bottle sampled at the 7/5/08 Bocky Bash locals tasting and another provided by fiver29. Pours a pitch black with tan head. Nose is funky cheese, maraschino cherries and alcohol. Taste is sour cherries, cheese and chocolate. Smooth, creamy mouth feel. Good brew – thanks John! 17thfloor (2443) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 7, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 9, 2008 [ I found this bottle on the shelf ...so I took it... I think it was Davinci’s from xnoxhatex... so thaks guys... hope you don’t mind that I drank it = ). Batch #7777 bottled January of 2007. ] Pours a thinner black with a minimal beige head. Crazy aroma... the cherries really age and mix interestingly with the bourbon barrel. Notes of bourbon, vanilla, black cherries, coffee bean like dryness in the aroma... so unique. I love Bell’s cherry stout... and I love bourbon... man this is good. Sweet tart cherries, bourbon, wood, burnt brown sugar, leather, some soy saltiness, cola, coffee, dark chocolate.... its definitely crass but its good to me. Lighter body than I expected, medium/full with light sparkling carbonation.... ever so slightly syrupy. Really easy drinking too... you could sip it... but I’m having a hard time keeping my glass full. LinusStick (3461) - Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 5, 2008
Delicious and extremely complex beer courtesy Mr Stitch. Aroma was huge and perfect. Strong bourbon and chocolate with a lot of oak and earth. Pour was also perfect. Near jet black with a nice irredescent amber hue. Taste was huge and full. Strong chocolate, cherry and oak with a strong astringent bitterness in the aftertaste. The cherry flavor is more bitter than sweet which is a plus in my book. Great beer. SDalkoholic (2393) - Linda Vista, California, USA - JUL 5, 2008
Bottle courtesy of Joey @ South Bay Drugs. A special thanks for making my 1,000 rating a memorable beer. This stout pours as a pitch black liquid with a tanned and delicate film of head. My nose is instantly gratified with the underlying aroma of bourbon and dark malt that smells both sweet and deliciously roasted. Texture is an oily and highly carbonated drink yet smooth and easily drinkable. The flavor is slightly tart yet strongly sweet and ranges in flavor from an undeniable black roast malt, wood barrel, bourbon, coffee and a slight notice of cherry that taste authentic. A real special treat to be had.
