3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very much wine taste. Barley like it says. Very heavy head that held well. Dark gold color. Had a very strong aftertaste. Good beer. Not a favorite though.
2014. Sampled from the tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Pours a near clear golden orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains and cookie with a hint of light fruit and biscuit underlying. Flavor has strong sweet grains with some toffee, light fruits and a hint of cookie supporting. Boozy, malty and hoppy is the best to describe. Piney finish with a boozy bite. Smells peachy. Had a draft pour at bells. Pours copper in color.

On tap: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, toffee, citrus, and a touch of raisin. It’s a dark copper with a small khaki head that fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. There’s minimal lacing. The flavor starts with caramel, toffee, fruit, and a touch of raisin. The finish has light apple, citrus hops, herbal notes, and a touch of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel. coachd (837) - Missouri, USA - MAR 16, 2015
Smells a little dull. The dark fruit and caramel characteristics are there, but very muted. Nice looking amber color with virtually no head. Taste is caramel and dark fruit first, spicy floral hops second and alcohol burn third. The burn lasts far longer than the sip. I was disappointed with this one.

Bell's Brewery, Kalamazoo, MI, draft. Smells like a farm, in a good way. Very malty. Little lacing.

Pours an almost purple brown. Nose and taste are on the sweet side, definitely more to the English end of the spectrum. I really liked that this is on 8.5% ABV and beautifully balance. It doesn’t need the extra 3-5% that most in this style bring. I was very pleased with this offering. Get ha some! tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - JUL 27, 2014
Tap: Swampy amber body with a beige foam that fades quickly into nothing. Aroma of heavy caramel & toffee with big undertones of grassiness & lightly citric hops. A little bit of booze & dark fruit. Taste has syrupy caramel, booze, & toffee lingering over notes of sweet prunes, dates, & a strong backbone of grassy, earthy hops. Herbal, bitter finish. More bitter than expected... Quite hoppy, & the hops even outlast the sticky malts in the finish. Pretty good if you like hoppy barleywines. alliance100 (1152) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUN 15, 2014

Glass at Time with Remy, pours reddish brown with small head. Reminds me more of a quad or Belgian strong, notes are grape, Belgian malt, wet wood, and other dark fruits. Medium body and carbonation. Just ok. drfabulous (7950) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - MAY 29, 2014
Draught at Beer Trappe. Light caramel and toffee. Some light sweetness with sugar. A light barley wine but tasty.
