12 oz bottle. Pours like tar, very thick, with some dark red undertones. Very slight tan head, but nice thick lacing. Aroma is roasty, with coffee notes, malt, and slight tartness. It has a sort of greek olive note as well, very complex. Flavor has cherry tartness up front, with a backside of hearty malts, and a briny, but not unpleasant finish. Palate is slightly fizzy on the tongue, but overall very thick. Got this from a good friend in Michigan. Reminds me of living in the Midwest. I still miss Bells, so this is a real treat.
No clue where this score will end up; Bell’s Cherry Stout seems to evolve as it warms, growing more complex and intriguing once you get past the initial blast of cherry tartness. Nice chocolate baseline upon which the cherries flourish, rich and semisweet, giving a solid foundation for the fruity soul of the pint. Never grows sweet, an appreciable touch considering the style’s cherry cordial potential, and a modest but noticeable bitterness firms up the finish. Nose should be better, but otherwise a good beer. Bottle from a Meijers grocery in Holland, Michigan. Black with a tan head, a bit too bubbly to be perfect. Strong aroma of tart cherries and bitter chocolate. Flavour is tart and bitter, with cherries almost overwhelming the chocolate. Strong on the alcohol, it is quite easy to drink. Dark, malty nose with some chocolate and cherry. Dark brown / black pour with creamy beige foam that persists. Heavy body with slick texture and light fizz. The roasted malts come out in the taste with a touch of bitterness that balances the cherry tartness well.

Black pour with a thin light tan ring of foam around the glass, giving off a lovely nose of black malt roast, dark bittersweet cocoa, and a big dose of cherry. Smooth and wonderous flavor that starts sweet and dark chocolaty, gets a tart but fleshy bit of cherry juice, there’s a wee bit of roast and black malt, then a cherry flesh and light tart juicy finish with a touch more chocolate in there. Bottle, thanks Christina! Roasted malt aroma with notes of tart cherries and chocolate. Pours very dark brown with a very slight ruby tinge as well as a thin but retentive light brown head that also has excellent lacing. Starts with roasted malt and chocolate flavors with a bit of cherry sweetness mixed in. Finishes smooth with the previously mentioned flavors as well as the cherry turning more towards tart over sweet. Shared 12 oz. bottle. Almost black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate notes, and hints of cherry. Taste: begins with dark malt, coffee, and chocolate, but finishes with tangy sour cherry. Acidic. Doesn’t really work for me.
