Pours a dark amber with a slightly beige head. The head is rather thin, but a fair amount of lacing remains for the duration. Aroma is of caramel malts and toffee, rather sweet and distinctive. Upon first taste I was immediately hit by a strong alcohol flavor akin to bourbon, as well as a buttery toffee taste. As it settled down, the maltiness in the aroma reasserted itself. But here’s where it gets interesting: As the beer continued to warm, I also detected a hint of wood smoke and salt in the flavor--just a touch. This is a doppelbock to be sure, but for me, there was just a hint of a rauchbier profile. In the end, I have to say that the taste really was sweet and salty. Mouthfeel was watery, but the carbonation was stronger and sharper than usual for this style. In sum: A beer that holds it’s own with the best German variants of the style. Definitely worthy a try.

12 ounce bottle. Copper colored pour with a large rocky beige head. Aroma is toasted caramel malt with notes of apple pie. Flavor is sweet toasted malt upfront. Obvious caramel and baked apple notes. Smooth and flavorful, with boozy notes in middle. Buttery malty finish is rich and satisfying. Quite faithful to the German Dppelbock style.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2017 This is an extremely good beer. The sweet and caramel malts blend well to make an extremely good beer.

Draft at Growler - pours a red-copper, ivory head. Malty blast on the nose, caramel, wood, molasses, holiday spice. Similar on the tongue with a smooth mellow feel. Nutty, but not too nutty like one often sees with the style, leather, caramel, tootsie rolls, clove. Good.

Avermelhada quase vinho, leve turbidez, espuma marrom avermelhada de media formação e pouca persistência. Aroma bastante adocicado, chiclete de tutti fruti, morango e leve passas. Paladar de médio dulçor caramelado sem amargor. Corpo leve e baixa carbonatação. Final tende a um gosto maltado aparentemente artificial, novamente tutti fruti. Bem longe de doupplebock alemãs como Weihenstephaner e Ayinger.

Malty copper aroma similar to a penny. Nice amber color with no head. The taste is also like a penny with a slight trace of hops. Light palate. The ABV is very well hidden, other than that this is a very average beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
