3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Tap @ Bells: Dense black, creamy head, enjoyed after a day filled with fresh Hopslam and Oarsman - this one looked demanding. Bitterly roasted malt aroma, coffee, cocoa, light charcoal. Aggressive herbal hoppage on the nose, too. Taste is full of black licorice, anise, roast, burnt coffee beans, some light, dry cocoa powder. Nice char with a semi-sweet and partially bitter and roasty finish. Creamy, smooth, sufficiently low carbonation. I believe this was re-brew of Batch 7,000, right? In my opinion, aged Batch 7,000 bottles are tasting much better than Dagger fresh, but this is still pretty good stout.
Sample at Bell’s on 1/28/16. Pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, roast and fruity hop. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with chocolate, crisp hop and roast before a sweet fruit finish. Marheb (5981) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 14, 2015

Draft pour at the source. Pours a darker brown with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma has big roast and an aggressive earthy hop profile. Big roast again in the taste with a nice level of bitterness. Bigger body and medium carbonation. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 31, 2014
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big pine, resin, and slight orange into molasses, dark cocoa, roast, some slight coffee in there, some slight spicy hops. Taste is a mix of coffee, chocolate, molasses and some vanilla into a bit of earth, nice spicy, piney hops with a hint of resin, finishing fairly bitter, slightly sweet. Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a khaki head. Not getting a ton on the nose except some chocolate notes which is surprising considering how big it is. Fairly hop forward in a floral kind of way though the malt feels a little burned to me. Finishes clean. Not my favorite stout from these guys.

Huge hop and malt aroma, so much flavor to this lots of hops for a stout... Very nice. jdb288 (584) - Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA - NOV 8, 2013
On tap at Bell’s. Lucky to try this one during a recent visit. Big, bold...you get the roasted malt flavor right away. Takes over the palate...but not in a bad way. Slight hop finish. A sipper. koleminer20 (3840) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - NOV 3, 2013
On draft at All Stouts Day. The pour is a dark brown, with hints of red throughout. The head is a thick film of lighter tan, with excellent lace. More of a covering than a lace, in fact. The aroma is really heavy on the hops with a minor hint of roast. The flavor is even more hoppy than the aroma. This tastes more like a black IPA than a stout. Not executed very well. Mouth feel is a little thin, and I'm not a fan.

Tap sampler, Bell’s Eccentric Café, 31/viii/13. Austere black ImpStout, unidemsionally unrelenting in its combination of dark vegetable root bitterness and blackened/charred malts. I guess this brutal sensory onslaught can be confused with complexity. (Nietzsche as read by Marilyn Manson, not Deleuze). DutchHillbilly (62) - Mattawan, Michigan, USA - SEP 3, 2013
Outstanding on my taste buds. Medium frothy head that held weel. Taste the hops but I though I could taste caramel and spices as well. Definately had the roasted taste. Declicious. My #1 fav so far!! On Tap. I dont think it is bottled. But if it is I will definately get my hands on some. BRAVO!!
