had this on tap at the brewery. Poured a murky deep brown into the glass with a small cream head. Nice big crew beer, big bready notes and a hint of brown sugar, but unfortunately it was dominated by bourbon. TheShat (131) - Lakewood, Ohio, USA - MAY 31, 2008
I tried this one on tap at the Eccentric Cafe.It had a small head and was opaque like porter or stout. The aroma was almost of chocolate liqueur. There was a lot more bite than I expected in the taste. Not bad. The strong alcohol finish seemed to detract from this rich and flavorful beer. On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Classified as an American Strong Ale due to the significant alcohol content (10% ABV). In snifter: deep opaque brown body, thin beige head. Big, buttery oak nose, backed by toast, molasses, and light vinous and burnt raisin notes. Body dominated by big, round oak, marshmallowy and soft like the Barrel Aged Double Cream/Expedition Stout. Brown ale characteristics generally take a back seat to the oak, but I picked up sweet chocolate, fruitskin, and fig or raisin. Warming alcohol bite. Good heft, fair complexity.
