Tap sampler, Bell’s Eccentric Café, 31/viii/13. Slightly translucent brownish black pour with steady tan head (as far as US bar sample flight glasses allow). Contained citrus in the nose, exotic bitters in the taste of tangerine and fir pine, dry palate. Would have to taste again to get anything specific from the dark malts, but tasty standard execution of a great up&coming style. valpoaj (755) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - OCT 8, 2013
Tap pour at EC - kind of a unique colored pour - brownish-black with a sandy tan head. Aroma is intense and solid - lots of yeasty, bready malt, but the hop profile shines through, lots of citrus fruit and piney hops - again, good stuff. Flavor is pretty good as well...slightly sour, the hops are the main show here, but I’m impressed about the balance in this beer given the not-so-intense ABV...resinous hops are at the forefront, but some lemon/orange flavors and a good dose of malt - this was seriously good stuff! Palate was above-average - easy drinking, nice level of carbonation. Would happily quaff more of these in the future if given the chance - definitely the standout of the evening at Bell’s for me! rosenbergh (11799) - Tampere, FINLAND - OCT 7, 2013

Black colour with a slight red hue and a small greyish tan head.
Cat piss, pine and spruce needles in a magical aroma. Absolutely fascinating! The flavour is very balanced. Dry hops, sourish berries and very dark malt. Absolutely enjoyable. A truly great brew!
Draft on tap at the Eccentric Cafe (Kalamazoo, MI). Pours a nice deeper blackish brown hue, some darker deep hues in the body show a good haze. Glowing brownish bottom and edges. A frothy tannish head atop dies to a filmy layer, laces ok as a filmy layer. Decent stick around. Aromas are piney and citrusy, a good melange of grapefruit, lemon, and pine. Some toastiness, bread, and more florals. A nice hoppy kick. Initial is firmly hoppy, pine and florals meet some toastiness, a bit of cocoa, some bready malts. A bit of creaminess, some firmer grapefruit elements, some resiny pine. Middle is a bit more toasty, some carmelized elements hit a firm hop element. Citrusy and piney, some grapefruit, a bit of that telltale toasty/creamy body from the Black IPA. Backend is a bit toasty and dry, earthy and floral hops. Some biscuit, bready malts and a decent hoppy. Finish is a bit of pretzel, dry florals and some gentle citrus that plays out. Solid. The hop flavors come on in the nose stronger and up front. Settles out more into the backend and finish. Fairly fresh, but a bit more deadened in the backend. Solid. Tmoney99 (14982) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 23, 2013
Draft at EC. Poured clear dark brown color with an average to large frothy brown head that lasted and produced excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt, citrus hop and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

Deep brown, nearly black pour with red/brown hue, eighth inch of beige oatmeal colored dense head. Light scent, campfire roasty malt, fresh cut grass and citrus hops. Really grassy flavor, hint of carmel malt, creamy, a little citrus hop too. Subtle flavor, really great blend. Soft carbonation, foamy mouthfeel, finish a bit dry. Light black IPA, absolutely great blend between roasted malt and hops that doesn’t end up too bright. Very nice, a shame it’s going up north to stay. rumproasts (6035) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - AUG 28, 2013
Tap. Black with small head. Described as a black IPA with tangerine notes, and that’s accurate. Unique and very tasty. ICEatALAMO (1353) - Troy, Michigan, USA - AUG 8, 2013
Black DIPA, draft at brewery. The pour i black with nice frothy white head. The aroma is earthy hops. The taste is intense and smooth at the same time. A pretty unique blend that interests the taste buds.

Draft at the Eccentric Café, Kalamazoo. Deep, muddy brown body, thin beige head. Nose of charred, toasty leaves. Inky, sharp body, roasty with charred leaves and burnt wood, also hickory-smoked meats. There are even some bubblegummy, fruity elements to this wacky beer. Excellent, weird shit. b3shine (9150) - Indiana, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Draft to taster at Eccentric Cafe. Looks good; cola with sticky light beige lacing. Smells good too; fruity and floral hops with a nice dark, roasty backbone. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. A great example of the style.
