Excellent Stout. Must try............................................... Northernbrewer (151) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - NOV 27, 2001
A textbook perfect Imperial. Bells has never been afraid of producing high gravity beers that actually have a high gravity and the sledgehammer finess of this beer shows why. A perfect blend of roasted malts with robust hop bitterness and flavor lead to a beer with unmatched complexity. Very well done. HoppyKev (50) - Redford, Michigan, USA - NOV 19, 2001
This stout can knock you on your butt. Very thick and with no carbonation this beer is very good with a very alcoholic finish joet (2678) - Wilsonville, Oregon, USA - NOV 13, 2001
Pours like MOTOR OIL! Super thick, chocolatey. Some burnt aromas, flavors. Extremely heavy and thick on the tongue. There's no way this could float on a Bass. Alcohol spice on the tail. This thing is an absolute MONSTER TRUCK - big kick, big dark aromas and flavors, whopping bitter and heavy hardy feel. I wish I loved stouts more... This is the most stouty stout I've ever tasted. Big thanks to PROC!!! npdempse (934) - St. Petersburg, Florida, USA - NOV 13, 2001
Opens with an incredible vinous nose. Is perhaps a bit shy on carbonation, but it really doesn't matter: this is a huge, complex, wonderful beer. Pleasantly sweet with all sorts of flavors going on: chocolate, coffee, loganberry jam, a bit of tar for good measure...

This is one of my all time favorites. It is a glass of big roasty blackness with hops to match. Tastes quite good after a couple years in the basement too. bipolar1 (268) - Hancock, Michigan, USA - OCT 11, 2001
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2005 This beer is a pot roast in a bottle. Some stouts fall short on flavor after extended drinking...not this. Aromas and flavors of black licorice, dates, motor oil, and burnt meat. You should almost cut it 50/50 with club soda. This is truly an awesome beer, and I’m going to cellar a bunch of it. tourette (225) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 26, 2001
Excellent stout. Almost too thick and intense for me. This would be perfect after a long expedition. Very, very complex and good. hennes (934) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - AUG 21, 2001
Very well named; this beer is quite a journey through alternating states of lovely roasted sweets and dark, complex bitters. Kaya161 (1142) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 26, 2001
This is intense. This beer is so black that it's purple. More flavours than I care to count...chocolate, licorice, coffee, its all there. Tastes of alcohol present in the finish. Damn Good!!
