COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

12 oz bottle pouring very dark brown with a dark khaki head that dissipates quickly. Rich aroma with heavy roasted chocolate notes. Very thick heavy mouthfeel. Taste is heavy in the roasted malt with chocolate and a strong coffee finish. Very good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a nice black color with a thin one finger khaki head. The aroma is booze, charred malts, brown bread, vanilla, and some dark fruits. The flavor is a nice combination with the booze pretty noticeable in the flavor. There is some bitterness but coming from the charred malts. The mouth feel is on the heavy side and is more of a sipper.

Thanks for this bottle GT - Black with a brown head - Dark malt with some hints of dark fruits - Good dark malt body with some dark fruity flavours with bitterness in the end - The good malt flavour with bitterness goes into the finish - This was real good

Bill Becker (1370) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 19, 2017
From Feb 2007 Pours from 12oz bottle a pitch black with a medium sized head of foam that shrinks rather quickly leaving just a fine ring around the edge of the glass. The smell is very strong but nice. There's oodles of roasted and sweet malt on the nose and also some fruitiness. The taste is also hugely malty. Lots of roastiness and sweet caramel malt along with chocolate and hot cocoa that adds some nice bitterness that creates one heck of a complex and pleasing experience to my palate. Wow is this ever a great sipping Imperial Stout! I did have a couple bottles of it a few years back but I think I'm enjoying it more now because of my "evolved" appreciation of quality microbrews. I'm about halfway through now and though the abv is pretty darned high, I'm not getting any of it in the taste, just some warming as it goes down. What a great brew to have on this very cold Casper winter evening... Bottom line: A *superb* full bodied, full flavoured Imperial Stout that borders on perfection. I can't recommend this one enough! Thanks to ColoradoBobs for allowing me to try this beauty again!!!

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2017 Svart med lavt lys brunt skum. Lukter mørk sjokolade, lett kaffe, kakao og tørket frukt. Fyldig. Smaker kaffemocca, salt lakris litt mot salmiakklakris, tung karamell og noe vanilje og alkohol. (Beavex17)

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2017 2017 version is much more mature than 2016. Chocolate, coffee, licorice, fruit, toffee. Can't imagine what aging will do to this beer. Best RIS out there in opinion.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, Bury-St-Edmunds. Smoky leather aroma. Glossy black. Thick foam dark capuccino head. Muvh lacing. Light-medium bitter, with a warmth to it. A tang. Rich coffee, Oulu tar liqour. Some burnt caramel. Thick bodied. Creamy. Sticky. Average carb. An astringent element to the finish. Retains a warmth. Warming. Never overdoes it. Great on a Sunday night. Should turn the fire on.

I try to be conservative when giving a perfect score, but I genuinely cannot find a flaw in this beer. Rich opaque dark body with light brown head. Incredibly well balanced flavor. Has the bold espresso/Arabic bean flavor you get from a Founders Breakfast, with the sweet mellow vanilla oak from a Bourbon County. Very worthy for review 100

What a phenomenal beer. The dark fruits notes are really really well blended with the dark chocolate notes in the beer. It's super smooth and delightful while also being very complex both on the nose and in the taste.

12 oz bottle at home, a few years old. Midnight black with tan head. Aroma has roasted malt, thick creamy chocolate, coffee, light alcohol and light liquorice. Taste is super smooth and extremely well balanced, similar notes as aroma with a salty, mineraly character in the background. Intensely enjoyable
