COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

12 oz bottle at home, a few years old. Midnight black with tan head. Aroma has roasted malt, thick creamy chocolate, coffee, light alcohol and light liquorice. Taste is super smooth and extremely well balanced, similar notes as aroma with a salty, mineraly character in the background. Intensely enjoyable

330ml bottle. Pours black, beige head doesn't last very long. Aroma of prunes, chocolate liquour, port wine, coffee, vanilla. Taste is ashy, prunes, chocolatey, roasty. Burnt and boozy finish. Sticky mouthfeel, full bodied, low carbo. Good stout, but little bit overrated in my opinion. Boozy.

2016 bottle. Perfectly black colour, small beige head with decent duration and lacing. Aroma of raisins, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, dark and roasted malts, with notes of espresso, mocca, cocoa. Taste is medium+ sweet and medium to heavy bitter, nicely sweet and roasted, of milk and dark chocolate, raisins, coffee, cocoa, light licorice and plum, with notes of molasses, roasty. Chocolate and roasted, burnt notes in the finish. Full body, oily, creamy texture, soft carbonation. A bit too roasted finish, but great, complex flavour. Excellent RIS, one of the best classic imperial stouts I’ve ever tried.
