On tap at Eccentric Cafe. Pours a cloudy, golden orange body with a finger-width, white, slowly dissipating head that leaves a good amount of lacing. Very nice and unique aroma. Funk, citrus, lots of peppercorn, ginger, wild bret, and a light bread absolutely jump out at me. Lovely. Flavor has lots of peppercorn on top of everything else. I love the balance on this and the even mixture of all the flavors. Smooth, slow drying aftertaste with lots of lingering peppercorn, lightly tart citrus, funk, bread, sweet ginger, and bret. Medium to light bodied and very smooth before a touch of crispness finishes this off. Overall, easily my favorite beer on my trip to Bell’s. Deep aromas and flavors with tons of personality. Tons of fun and a great experience. Shout out to Ceebs25 for enjoying this one with me. madvike (3280) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 9, 2009
Sampled @ GTMW ’09 - Pours hazy amber with no head. Smells of grass, hay, yeast, lemon. Taste is really off, and kind of reminded me of GL Grassroots Ale. It’s earthy and spicy, with the ginger taste coming to the front. It’s real fresh and bubbly in the mouth, but this one didn’t quite work like I think they intended. acidic, slightly fruity, lacking sweetness and balance. Lot of lacto. Not the best beer bell’s has done. xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - JUL 29, 2009
On tap at the eccentric cafe. Murky amber with no head to speak of. Aroma is funk slight sourness, a little barnyard with fruitiness, reminds of the aroma of bam biere. Flavor is a nice funk with a little bit more sweetness than aroma but pretty dry none the less, a good fruitiness s well. Medium to light body with nice carbonation. Reminds me a lot of bam biere with a little more sweetness and ofcourse the ginger. coyotehunter (698) - , Michigan, USA - JUL 17, 2009
On tap 7/17/09. Board says an Ale spiced with peppercorn and galangal. Apparently the Galangal is and herb similar to ginger. Pours a fuzzy hazy yellow with no head. Interesting aromas of citrus, earth, and odd herbs......of course, hence, the Galangal. Not much of a sour...more of a spice/herb ale...light sour note on the palate but thats it. It comes across really as something of a mess. the flavors dont really mesh. Finish is somewhat carbonated and pops out a bit. Odd....just odd.
