The big problem with cardamom isn’t its flavour - I like the flavour. It’s the application. Maybe I just don’t cook the right foods, but it takes me forever to use even the tiniest amount. Larry Bell, evidently, has the same problem and decided to get rid of his entire stock in this beer. Extremely dark brown; aroma of allspice and cardamom, coffee; similar flavours, with perhaps a citric element; fruitcakey finish. Ferris (15906) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 5, 2015
Draft - Ginger, clove and roast. Jet black with a light brown head. Tons of ginger with a bit of toasted malts. Ginger overwhelms but if you like ginger it is pretty nice. Tmoney99 (14622) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 6, 2009
Bottle shared by shigadeyo.
Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy ginger and nutmeg aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy spice and butter flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration.
Very good complex brew. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - FEB 19, 2013
Draft. Creamy large brown head atop black body with brown edge. Aroma is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, some nutmeg, roast, ginger, light anise. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, some bittersweet chocolate, nutmeg, ginger. Soft medium body, low carbonation. Dogbrick (13144) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 15, 2003
Opaque black color with a thin beige head. Thin lacing. Nicely spiced cinnamon and roasty aroma. However the flavor really did not do much for me. I like my Stouts more creamy than spicy, and this is way on the tart and spicy side. It is still rather drinkable but not my favorite Kalamazoo Stout by any stretch. It would probably be more tolerable with food.

A nice spiced stout, ginger in the nose, nutmeg in the flavor. Woudl be good for the holidays. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - SEP 30, 2008
(Draught) Pours a murky brown body with small creamy beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, roasted malt, ginger, nutmeg, clove, and light anise. Flavor of roasted malt, molasses, cinnamon, and brown sugar. hopdog (12673) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 17, 2005
12oz bottle acquired in trade with CaptainCougar (thanks!). Poured a dark, dark brown with an averaged sized brown head. Aromas of molassess, spices, light maple, roasted malts, and chocolate. Tastes starts of wih maple leading into other softer spice tastes and roasted malts with a coffee finish. Body a tad on the thin side. Shows its age a little bit but still a good beer. deyholla (11759) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a grayish head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of nutmeg and roasted malts with a bit of underlying ginger. Flavor starts with strong roasted malts and are joined by a combination of ginger and nutmeg. hopscotch (11161) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 1, 2003
Totally black brew. Murky brown when held up to the sun. Small, creamy, khaki head.
The aroma is of chocolate and root beer; vanilla and cola.
The flavor is of chocolate, vanilla, buttermilk and cola. The alcohol is abundant. Well-balanced. Very lightly bitter.
Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Alcoholic, lightly bitter finish. Very simple brew. The alcohol is not well-hidden, but very good stuff nonetheless!
