UPDATED: OCT 17, 2012 Pours blacker than Dick Cheney’s heart - taste of coffee, chocolate, and a hint of licorice. Smooth drinking, and complex in flavor. Yum.
On tap in at Laci’s in Syracuse. Pours black with creamy, brown head and nice lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, toast, dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, vanilla and herbal hops . UPDATED 10/29/12:- Sampled many times since. Still one of my favorite stouts, but downgraded just a couple points.,,,,,,,,, (Original Review)- This is a top notch stout. Semi-thick dark black appearance. Lots of malty goodies such as chocolate, coffee, caramel....plus added bonus of licorice. Decent hop finish in the end, but this is all about the malts really. Reminded me of a sweeter baltic porter, but well balanced at the same time. Only grabbed a single to sample but can't wait to get a 6 of this. Bottle, courtesy of DerA, many thanks! Pours black. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, coffee, ashes. Body is medium, but quite intense: Chocolate, with a strong-ish carbonation, a bit of tar. Rocky dark beige head stayed on a a near black still body.
Big aroma of malt, espresso & liquorice.
Medium body, smooth on the palate with a clean aft.

Saveurs torréfié au chocolat perdurent en bouche sur une belle longueur et se finissent sur de la cendrée avec une saveur fruitée aigre-douce à la réglisse. Belle rondeur en équilibre avec le maltage puisant assez dense levuré mais à la caramélisation discrète et à la texture collante au palais, visqueuse sur les papilles. Amertume aigrelette en finale très désaltérante. Quoi que bien fait se stout reste classique. Bottle pour from Valley Beverage Company. Appearance is opaque black with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width creamy, light brown head with decent retention and tons of soapy, leggy lacing. Aroma is rich, roasted (almost burnt) malts with molasses, earth, and dark fruits and hint of anise (at initial pour but fade). Taste is rich, roasted malts, molasses, earth, subtler dark fruits and anise. Palate is full bodied with smooth, foamy texture, average carbonation and dry finish as taste.
