COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Café. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale.

Poured as a taster at local shop. Pours a nice golden color with white head. Aroma of citrus and resin, with undertones of spiciness from rye. Tastes follow the aromas and the finish is clean and refreshing.

Tasted from 12oz brown bottle into a Willybecher glass. It poured a hazy light orange amber colour with off-white foam, decent head-retention. I’d consider this a "Rye IPA", definitely hops-forward and more layered than most: grassy, grainy, some subtle sharpness from the rye, malty and a little toasty, balanced by pungent American hops: peppery, grapefruity, spicy, resiny, musky, dank ganja-like impression. Light-medium body, average carbonation, well-rounded mouthfeel with more grain complexity than most APAs. Well-crafted and very tasty, with a nice crisp snap at the finish. Obvious appeal for casual drinkers and beer nerds. Recommended.

Pint on tap. Nice golden color, good lacing, clear. Good aroma, nice light rye smell. Taste matches, like a non-traditional IPA, not overwhelming, good or bad. A nice balanced crispy taste, long aftertaste. Pretty good beer, but nothing earth-shattering for me.

Bottle, courtesy of cards04. Slightly hazy golden pour with a frothy white head. Light citrus and biscuity hops aromas, some rye spiciness and malt on the nose as well. Hoppy flavour with some more rye spiciness, a bit of malt and a nice full mouthfeel.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, biscuit, bread, hints of slight spice with maybe a touch of rye, some hints of white fruit come in as well. Taste is a mix of honey, vanilla, biscuit, bread, slight grain into some spice, rye, grass, finishing fairly dry, slightly bitter.

Good beer with a hop-start and a subtle continuation that melts away. A soft IPA sense which feels light and fresh.
