COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Cafť. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale.

Pours a straw gold color. Fairly cloudy with a nice cream head. Lot of spice and hop funk upfront in the nose. Initial taste is very citrusy and light then finishes very bitter. Not much malt backbone. This would be much more drinkable without the very bitter finish, but I'm sure other people will like that a lot.. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2017 Paid $7 for a 4-pack of 16floz cans with a packaging date of January 2, 2017. First can consumed (Iíve had about 3-4 pints on draft within the last year or so) from a pint glass on 01.02.2017. Deep gold in color and a sticky head leaves its mark on the glass. Pleasant, although mild aroma of hops completes the introduction. Flavor profile consists of lightly burnt toast, black pepper, and earthy. The body is medium and sharp bitterness leaves it mark on the palate. An all around solid beer. Bellís appears to accomplish what they were seeking with this one. A good 2-3 pinter kind of beer.

Great earthy taste up front with a nice bitter finish. Exactly what Iím looking for in a pale ale,

You get your hoppiness youíd expect from a pale ale and a nice sweetness youíd look for in a summer beer. The hoppiness dominates, but itís very smooth overall and is a nice beer to sip slowly. All in all, good stuff.

Itís probably a bit premature to drink Spring beer while Nebraska is still in the grip of snow and ice, but what the hell? Smitten pairs spicy rye malt with hops, and itís a combination that I have a weakness for. Earthy, grassy, and lightly peppery flavors blend with lemony hops. Finish is bright, clean, and refreshing. Smitten showcases the best of rye and hop flavors without the tinge of soapiness that can sometimes show up in these types of beer. Lovely stuff.

On draft at Pazzoís. Aroma seemed to randomly switch between nothing but rye and heavy hops. It just never came together for me.

Bottle from West Side. Pours a clear deep gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Light grainy nose with a touch of grass. Clean and crisp with a balanced but light flavor. Faint rye on the finish. Very much like a blonde ale.

Slightly hazy, dark golden color with slightly off-white foam. Aroma is quite malty but there is also a nice, citrusy hoppiness and some caramel. Taste is also malty with a caramel hint, slightly spicy and finishes with bitter grapefruit and earthy hop notes. Medium body and carbonation. Overall it"s a good pale ale with a classic hop profile and slightly spicy rye malt.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a softly carbonated transparent yellow colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was a hoppy rye. The crisp mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish hoppy aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of rye and hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.
