Best rye ale I’ve ever tried. It’s like bread in a glass. Full and delicious!......... maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a moderate white head. Nose has a bit of a bite to it, with a lot of citrus hops notes belying a bitter taste. Taste actually isn’t as bitter as the nose would imply, but has some great light citrusy hoppy tastes. Great brew. KegOstertag (92) - - MAR 14, 2013
UPDATED: APR 25, 2013 Drank in tulip glass poured from 12oz bottle. Aroma- mix between citrus, hops, and rose petals. Glorious. Appearance- beautiful golden orange color. Taste- ahhhh. Heavenly. So smooth yet so much flavor. Very very drinkable. Citrus with a bit of hops. Palate- similiar to taste but the hops come out more here. Overall- brilliant. My favorite spring/summer weather beer ever. I could drink these all day. May not be the biggest or boldest beer ive had but it still remains among my favorites of all time PureMichigan (2) - Michigan, USA - JUL 4, 2013 does not count
Citrusy, somewhat tropical aroma, hops. Pours a perfect golden color, cloudy and unfiltered. Great looking beer. Good head and excellent lacing. A mild rye ale, not quite light but just right. Piny hops and a hint of pepperiness. Great taste. One of my favorite seasonals. 6.0% abv is nice, I’m a little buzzed by the two I’ve imbibed tonight. Solid offering from Bells. Should be brewed in the summer though. ronaldtheriot (1933) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - APR 24, 2017
Smitten Golden Rye Ale has a medium, off-white head, a hazy, orange-gold, highly carbonated appearance, with some glass lacing. Aroma is of spiced, white bread, yeast, sourdough, and grass. Taste is of spicy, white bread, sugar, grassy, strong hop bitterness, and some bread crust. Mouthfeel is medium and slick. Smitten finishes dry. RJT

Pours a brilliant golden-tan with a significant amount of minuscule flocculates - almost hazy. Produces a creamy, thick, 2 inch off-white head. Poured a second carefully and "candled" - stopped pouring when the flocculates reached the neck. The ale does have a slight haze! Beautiful, fresh citrus and hoppy nose. Bright, clean, spicy palate that lingers. Totally moreish. Perceptively sessionable, although the 6% ABV may be a concern. Develops a very nice Belgian lace. Forward bitter notes with lingering malt and woody-earthy notes! Poured a third . . . Hanan (86) - NW Phoenix, Arizona, USA - MAY 31, 2014
Bottle in cold mug on a hot day. Right off sharp refreshing and a little spicy. Slight malt wheat. I'm not a grapefruit fan but it's slight mixed in a pleasant way. A citrus blend. Sure, some rye in there. And a bit off hops. I'm all in on this summer brew.

750mL Bottle. Thanks Sean! I found this to be fantastic. It was the most delicate, subtle nuanced beer of the evening and one of the few that I said, "of all the beers I’ve had tonight, this is one of the few that I really crave to have again." Spicy, fresh, and with a load of pale malt complexity. This really sings of spring earth. There’s a real farm quality to this. Growing grasses, early fall, and ripeness. I just love the grain complexity and the subtle off-play of hops. Very, very nice. jstraw (1967) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 15, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2013 Draft at Jerry’s. Hazy, orange-gold with good, foamy, off-white head / Very soft, mellow nose of rye, resin, citrus & tropical fruit, and honey / Medium body, soft, some sweetness, lush with moderate hop bite, and good, bitter finish / Mellow, creamy flavors of rye, bread, spun sugar, grapefruit, orange, and resin / A superb, easy drinker. libertine (433) - rochester hills, Michigan, USA - FEB 3, 2013
know my rating is high but not over hyping it at all.pours a golden straw yellow with a nice head.love the sediment floating in my glass.beautiful looking beer with nice lacing on my glass.aroma is hoppy citrus, grapefruit and cereal.flavor is wonderful, balanced with the rye and hops.medium bodied, medium carbonation and a dry finish.bells i take my hate off to you on this one.please consider making this a summer beer because i know i would love a couple of these on a hot day at the lake.think this is more of an i.p.a but a lot of people who are not familiar with the style this would be a perfect beer to get you to start enjoying the style.
