Draft at Bells. Pours gold with no head. Aroma is charcoal, smoke. Taste is very smokey with hop notes (pine, citrus) in the background. Maybe too much smoke on this one. Not my favorite but it gets extra points for originality. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - SEP 23, 2013
Draft on tap at the Eccentric Cafe (Kalamazoo, MI). Pours a deep glowing copepr amber hue, a gentle haze, quite the striking deep glow. A frothy offwhite head dies to a filmy layer, sticks around ok and laces ok. Aromas present some rye, biscuit and campfire smoke. A bit of hot dog, bready malts, some straw and firmer malt body. Gentle earthy hops are subtle, a compliment. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, campfire meets some toastiness, biscuit and bread. Mellow grainy malts, a touch of nuttiness. The smoke is the focus but it’s not dominant, a medium to decent layer hits the palate, a bit dry with some smoke. Middle is bready, grainy, a bit of biscuit meets some grainy smoke, more gentle campfire regard. A bit more woody smoke, some gentle dryness and earthy hops. Backend is a bit grainy, biscuity and bready, some crusty fresh bread, decent smokiness is earthy, subtle campfire element has tapered much more. Earthy hops, some gentle dried fruit that kinda seems to go hand-in-hand with that smokiness. Finish is pretty palatable, a bit of dryness meets decent smoke, grainy and bready malts, that touch of more substantial biscuit and carmelized feel keeps kicking. Solid beer. Nice nose. Gorgeous pour. Tmoney99 (14625) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 21, 2013
Draft sample. Poured clear dark copper with an average frothy white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate complex earthy rye and small smoke aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy smoked earthy flavor with a medium smoked bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer. b3shine (8940) - Indiana, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Draft to taster at Eccentric Cafe. Looks solid; a transparent orange with thin white lacing. Smells solid too; smoke and rye spice. Tastes like it smells with a light but decent mouthfeel. Not bad. fattybladdy (628) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - APR 14, 2013
Draft sampler @ Bell’s. Pours a dark amber. Very smokey in taste, like drinking a bonfire. Distinct flavors of grilled hot dogs, bacon. Interesting brew, good in small quantity but not something I’d want to drink all night.

Viscous orange amber pour with a ring of dense suds around the miniscus. Smells like mesquite wood chips smoking meat and campfire. Sour creamy mouth feel with little carbonation. Sour malts mixed with strongly smoked mesquite flavor similar to brisket or bacon. Smokey dry finish. Wouldn’t want to drink a lot of this but it’s very good and pretty unique. Enjoyed on tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Unfiltered look, Caesar head. Carbonation is right there. Some sourness. Not so drinkable. deyholla (11759) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 3, 2009
On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Poured a dark reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma was sweet and smokey, kind of reminded me of a campfire. Flavor is smokey and becomes a little overwhelming by the end of the pint. xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - JUL 29, 2009
On tap at the eccentric cafe. Almost clear dark amber with creamy off-white head. Aroma is light but noticable smokey quality, well balanced with malt and light spicieness. Flavor is nice, not overpowering smoke with off-dry dough and spiciness as well as a slight acidity that could possibley be coming from the smoke. Medium, creamy body. A nice, sessionable smoked beer, not always the easiest thing to pull off. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JUL 26, 2009
At Eccentric cafe: Deep golden amber hue with a okay frothy head and minimal lace. The aroma has notes of light smoked wood, slight rye and bready malts with some faint apple esters. This has simple ale flavors with just a touch of smoked wood and almost no sign of rye. A hint of hop spice towards the finish. The mouth feel is lively and refreshing, clean and easy to drink. Expected much more from the name but it is drinkable.
