12oz bottle poured pitch black with a nice thick brown head. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, toffee and roast. Taste was nice and rounded with a good bitterness that balanced out the complexity of the malts. An awesome stout that is well worth a try. dhlesq (233) - Thousand Oaks, California, USA - AUG 29, 2006
Overpowering aroma of black olives - interesting and different but not necessarily in a good way. Appears an opaque black color with a small dark brown head that dissipates quickly. Flavor of chocolate with some roast notes and with a bit of a salty impression - superbly balanced. Palate is thick and creamy, almost velvety. Overall, another excellent offering from Bells, though the aroma is a bit off-putting. Enniskillen (2058) - Bakersfield, California, USA - AUG 29, 2006
Aroma is heavy coffee and mollases and some chocolate, but nutty also. Body is black with ruby edges with a quickly dissapating mocha head. Taste is coffee, with a bit of alcohol sweetness, cocoa, light hop background. drfabulous (8090) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - AUG 23, 2006
This is one awesome stout. I can’t wait for winter, just so I can buy a six. Perfect for a Michigan freeze. elnadeau (786) - Laguna Niguel, California, USA - AUG 22, 2006
Bells sure knows how to brew a stout, this one is no exception. Thick but smooth, sweet but balanced, coffee, toffee, vanilla cocoa and roasted malt with alcohol on top. Very nice creation.

Beer is full of malty chocolate. Tastes like a thick creamy chocolate malt shake beer. Absolutly delecious, but i couldn’t drink much as it weighs really heavy on the stomach. unclemattie (4358) - Georgia, USA - AUG 18, 2006
smells like a chocolate stout right from the pour!
Very dark. Beautiful aroma. smells of choco, heavy roasted malt. Smeet malt at first. with a roasted coffee bean finish. Creamy, chewy texture but not heavy. Grandpa (327) - Verona, New York, USA - AUG 1, 2006
This is a good stout. It looks great in the glass; opaque black with a large tan, tiny bubbled head. Full bodied yet smooth on the tongue. Nice roasted malt flavor that coats the mouth with malt sweetness followed the hops which left a slightly bitter aftertaste. IrishBoy (4211) - Bakersfield, California, USA - JUL 31, 2006
UPDATED: APR 4, 2010 Bottle from trade with Ross Thanks! Nose of chocolate and malt with a tiny vanilla note; opaque ebony with cherry highlights; chocolaty malts in the flavor with some raosted nut and coffee notes and a tiny bit of hops join some chocolate in the aftertaste. 7/31/2006 8/4/8/4/16 4.0
12 oz bottle from msante79. Nose of dark chocolate, toasted bread, and some raosty coffee. Black with yellow brown edges and a small, lightly lacing cinnamon tan head. Flavor is lightly sweet, coffee, a little slightly sour milk, and roastiness. Body a little thin. tmad (93) - Dayton, Ohio, USA - JUL 24, 2006
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2006 Deep brown color with a sweet aroma. A sweet malt flavor with a medium body. Very smooth and mildy creamy.Light chocolatey roasted maltiness, this pleasantly lingers on the palate. This is another fine beer from Bells Brewery.
