Typical jet black color very small brown head that does leave a lace, cant see any carbonation. Malty but a sweet milky smell like the candy "whoppers". Nice pleasant aroma not too strong and lacking a hop bite. A sweet and creamy taste to this stout rather than the usual burnt gloom and doom. Palate is excellent for this type. A most refreshing taste not oversweet and not the usual bitter pill associated with craft stouts. Great.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2004 Pours nearly opaque black with medium diminishing tan head. Nice aroma filled with roast, buttermilk, coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Medium thick body. Velvety smooth with soft carbonation. Exceptionally creamy. Flavor with heavy roast, lots of sweet lactose tang, coffee, molasses, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of dark fruit. The sweet lactose/sour milk/buttermilk quality can become a little overpowering as the beer warms. Even so, it is more proof that bell's knows stouts.

Near-black pour with minimal head. Aroma mildly bitter aroma. Flavor is bitter roasted malt, coffee, light toffee. How did I manage to get a year old bottle?

Nice black color with a medium sized tan head. Sweet coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. Almost watery flavor that finishes the story the aroma starts. Easy to drink with nice carbonation to match the smoothness of the beer. "Sessionable" if you will. Mild for a stout but warms up nicely.

Black with beige head, nice lacing. Somewhat dried fruit aroma. Thick mouth feel. Sweet in the beginning. Floral earthy notes in the finish. A very thick and creamy stout.

Dark, rich, and sweet. Didn’t even notice the alcohol. The description is right, it’s oh so smooth. Wouldn’t drink too many, but what a great dessert beer.

Sweet coffee aroma and tastes the same. Very good stout. Good back bone but not too heavy. Had a six pack from Holmes with Erik.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2004 I like the cream addition to this stout as it makes it very smooth. Also very roasty and sticky, nice mocha head.

Pours almost totally black, just a hint of red around the edges, and a foamy light brown head. Lots of sweet toffee on the nose, nice caramel notes, very light vanilla bean flavor, milk chocolate, and slightly nutty smelling. Very nice light and creamy milk chocolate taste, very subtle coffee note, toasted malt, caramel, and sweet lactose. Tasty and sweet. Very much a desert beer.
