Nice roastiness in the nose. Little foam to note, just a small edge lace. I’m drinking this almost 15 mos after bottling based on bell’s batch numbers. A nice mouthfeel just coats evenly and smoothly. Taste is nice and light chocolatey with solid malt. Would be interested in a fresh bottle to compare. amg800 (237) - Ada, Michigan, USA - AUG 9, 2011
Pours black with a rich caramel head, flat carbonation.
Rich chocolate, caramel, sweet roasted malt notes.
Bitter sweet finish, chewy & creamy, lively on the tongue. iride15 (237) - Rockledge, Florida, Florida, USA - JAN 31, 2009
Black-brown color with a brown lace head. Sweet malt aroma with caramel and chocolate dominating. Milky cream taste. Great palate compared to most sweet stouts. Long rich aftertaste and doesn’t end bitter and sour like most. sepia5 (237) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 26, 2010
Can Bell’s make a stout or what? Reminds me a bit a very toned down version of the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Nose of black licorice. Plenty of lacing. Not surprisingly, a very creamy, smooth stout with a toned down bitterness that only becomes apparent after an initial sweetness. Flavor of chocolate malt and a bit of coffee. Outstanding beer from one of the best craft brewers out there. Moggman (235) - Columbus, USA - OCT 2, 2008
Bottle. Pours thick brown with tan head. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, creamy and thick. Finishes malty. Very hearty beer for winter drinking.

Bells makes awesome beers. This is no exception. Great color, toasty sweet, great balance. One of my favorite stouts. drainey (234) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 23, 2006
12 oz bottle. Dark brown body with a very small whitish head. Slight aroma of coffee. Flavor is coffee and bittersweet chocolate, not as bold as I would have liked. Palate was smooth, but could have had more body. A decent stout, but I didn’t think it was anything special. jobyone (234) - Charlotte, USA - OCT 21, 2007
bottle. Pours pitch black with brown head. Aroma is sweet with sight hints of fruit. Body is mediuma nd taste has coffee and alcohol. dhlesq (233) - Thousand Oaks, California, USA - AUG 29, 2006
Overpowering aroma of black olives - interesting and different but not necessarily in a good way. Appears an opaque black color with a small dark brown head that dissipates quickly. Flavor of chocolate with some roast notes and with a bit of a salty impression - superbly balanced. Palate is thick and creamy, almost velvety. Overall, another excellent offering from Bells, though the aroma is a bit off-putting. thill25 (232) - Orlando, Florida, USA - FEB 20, 2008
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2008 12 oz. bottle..Poured very dark brown w/ a tan head. Not much lacing, but the pour was not very aggresive. Aroma was of coffee, sweet cream, and some cocoa. Taste was sweet, creamy coffee with a touch of dark chocolate. The mouthfeel was very creamy and the finish was smooooooth. I really enjoyed this wonderful stout!
