For a beer with 10 different types of malt in it this was a disappointingly one-dimensional beer. Faint aroma of coffee and liquorice, and with a taste of cold coffee and mollases. Really malt sweet upfront, but a thin, watery body - nothing like the fat, chewy character of its big brother the Expedition Stout. A poor relation in my book. skatanarchy (212) - - AUG 12, 2015

(draft) A nice roasty chocolate flavor. The extra alcohol, as compared to similar stouts, seemed unnecessary to me, and annoyed me a little. A beer this good doesn’t need the alcohol gimmick. BeeriedEyed (211) - USA - JAN 19, 2012
Great beer. I have never tried anything from Bell’s brewery but look forward to discovering other great beers. foundmd (210) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 28, 2008
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2011 Cask at Fries Cafe. Pours black with a nice creamy head and excellent lacing. Chocolate and sweet malts in the nose with excellent roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, fruit, and smoke on the tongue. Medium bodied, smooth, and creamy with lingering balanced roast. A terrific stout.

Aroma is of strong coffee with cream in it. Besides the temp, I’m not sure I could have told the difference. Appearance is jet black with a medium tan head. Taste is of coffee, chocolate, and some hops. Beerapprentice (208) - Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 26, 2009
Pours a dark, almost black cola colour with quickly dissipating tan head. Has a smooth, milky finish with a roasted malt, chocolate, lactose and coffee flavor. Aroma of malts, sweet chocolate and coffee. Nice sweet stout! mallons72 (208) - livonia, Michigan, USA - FEB 27, 2010
On tap at Ashley’s Westland. Bell’s is the best. This is a very smooth creamy/chocolatey/coffee stout. Somewhat lower rating due to poor finish. Cryotek (206) - Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA - JAN 31, 2008
batch 8150 - very faint aroma, a dry plywood scent. Very woody taste. Burned wood, roasted creamed coffee, dry woody malts. Not sweet, smooth at fiirst, and a little harsh going down. I had very high expectations for this, so maybe thats why i’m a little disappointed. I don’t taste much of any cream. A little bitter in the finish also, which i don’t care for in stouts. A fine stout. Smooth, with a chocolate/coffee taste. Drank half and had the other half with chocolate ice cream. WOW!
