Dark with orange/red hues. Head that died quick. Roasted nose with definite bittersweet,milky chocolate aromas as well. Smooth, bittersweet, roasty flavors with hints of smoke and wood? Decent hops and nice balance. Might be a nice intro to the world of Imperials. Thank you Psychprof.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2003 Re-rate: I had to bump this up a just a bit. It is a damn good beer. Dark brown/black body that is creamy and sweet. Chocolate, toast and roasted coffee. Good stuff. 3.5 This one was pretty nice. Loads of chocolate compliment a slightly roasted quality. Also a bit of chocolate. A huge, light brown rocky head invited me in for a taste. . .how could I pass that up? Why is it that Bells stouts dont seem to have a very pronounced nose for me? Very creamy mouthfeel with a nice full roasted malt flavor. The usual coffee/dark chocolate notes but has an unusual slightly sour finish. Overall a great brew and very enjoyable.

As always, the Bells yeast is present. I usually drink the lighter stuff where the yeast kind of overpowers things. Not really the case here. Slippery mouthfeel, deep black color, not a lot of head (probably due to a soapy residue glass). Roasty malt flavor, maybe a little overbalanced in the hop direction. Moderate alcohol presence. UPDATED: APR 3, 2004 The nose of this is rather strange, somewhat reminds me of canned stew, but I dont know why. No real bite, but a rich malt flavor throughout. As soon as it was opened, the aroma of coffee was very present, but faded after a while. Very dark brown, with a nice light brown head. A hint of coffee to it in both flavor and aroma. Maybe a touch of almond to it. The aftertaste was smooth and mellow. Felt more carbonated than I would have expected.
