Sweeter and smoother than Kalamazoo Stout. A beer for special winter occasions. Great with chocolate desserts. Available October-March.

This beer looks like oil as you pour it into the glass. Of course, this is not a bad thing. Quite the contrary, actually. I find that if you can see through your stout, you are not going to enjoy said stout because it is going to fucking gross, but I digress. This beer has a delicious aroma, taste, and palate of chocolate and coffee. All the essentials. It is one of the smoothest stouts I have found and would love to have another go with this magnificent creation. If I could fuck this beer, you better believe I would.

Appearance: dark coffee, with a short tan creamy head that shrinks to a baby collar with nice lacing. Aroma: toffee, dark bittersweet chocolate. Taste: rich bittersweet chocolate, hint of coffee, lightly dry. Finish: surprisingly short and clean, crisp and sweet, and a little bit dry. Notes: Wow, great beer. Very rich, very complex; like an unsweet dessert. Amazingly full-bodied. Winter can’t come again fast enough. I was foolish enough to only buy a single bottle. Next time I find this bad boy, I’m going to get a case to last me for the whole year. This is a year-round kind of stout.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours like motor oil. Thick and pitch black. One finger mocha color head. On the nose, im getting chocolate, coffee beans, and roasted malts. The taste is very nice! Bittersweet dark chocolate and roasted malts. Light hops and coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingers for a second or 2. Thick mouth feel. Reminiscent of a milk creaminess. A very nice beer to sip on and savor. The thickness makes it kinda of weird to down one after another.

Poured into a snifter. Pours a pitch black sea into my snifter with a dark tan head that recedes at decent rate. Chocolate of the bat in the nose. Very sweet aroma from the 10 different malts. Also has a very roasted aroma. The double cream stout has an extremely rich flavor. So much flavor with all the malts. This is perhaps my favorite beer from Bell’s. Coffee, Chocolate and molasses are all over this one. This beer makes the mouth salivate. Great sweetness with matching bitters. That roasted flavor is lingering for a while. At 6.1% this could become my new session stout if it wasn’t so limited. Pick this up, you won’t be disappointed.

Appearance: Jet black + red transparencies skimming bottom, minimal head, minimal lacing

Smell: Burnt coffee, raw cinnamon, bittersweet chocolate, earthiness

Taste: Incredible body, amazing cloud-like mouthfeel, burnt coffee, chocolate fudge, molasses, roasted carmel malts, black licorice, oak bark + chocolate milk + cardboard residual, hint of raisin + vanilla bean, well balanced, mild carbonation, drinkable

Pairings: Aperitif w/ brie + fresh bread, bruschetta

Amazing! Sweet coffer and chocolate aroma. Heavy on the tongue. Very sweet, but just right. Great beer.

For a sweet stout (not my favorite style) this is great! The chocolate and caramel roasts dominate, but the smooth feel and overall character of the beer are pleasantly surprising.

Creamy, sweet and smooth with a pleasant aftertaste. Great with chocolate flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It’s been a little while since I’ve started a review with a blatantly inappropriate comment. Here’s one for not-so-old time’s sake: Bell’s Double Cream Stout was so good it made me cream myself twice. Okay, I’ve got that out of my system. This Sweet Stout pours black and opaque. Cocoa and coffee smells. Bold roasted coffee flavor with some (but not too much) lactose behind it. Some chocolate and a little licorice. Smooth as suede. It was a damn good breakfast pairing.
