A ray of sunlight on a brisk autumnal afternoon. Sweeter and lighter than our other big stouts. Milk sugar added at conditioning brings sweetness to the otherwise dark malt flavor.

muzzlehatch (4976) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 25, 2005
12 oz bottle purchased at The Party Store in Ann Arbor on July 24, 2005 and yes they still had some left. This one was cold in the fridge so I’m hoping...ah, opens with a nice pop, the carbonation hasn’t left...body is deep, deep purple-black with a fully lasting dark foamy ring, little lace...aroma of raisins, dark and milk chocolate, French vanilla, perhaps some cherry, really luscious with barely a trace of oxidation....body of cherries, chocolate, light hints of cola, just a touch vinous and sour but surprisingly decent still...a bit thin in the body, but this is quite drinkable yet (don’t know how much longer) and I’m thrilled to have it. Thanks Party Store!

Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JUL 17, 2005
Bottle: Aroma is loaded with chocolate and some light vanilla. Pours a dark brown with no transparency with a small tan head that quickly becomes a ring. Unfortunately this is past it’s prime and does not taste nearly as good as it smells. Very sour with chocolate and light coffee barely able to sneak past the sourness.

Bottle. Ahh, to find old retired beers in the back of small stores. Damn expensive for an two year old stout however. Pours a black color with a slight light-brown head which fades to a ring. Aroma is of roasted grain, a bit cidery/winey and oxidized. Body is tragically thin. Roasted grain flavor with a very oxidized presence. The wine/cider is there in flavor also but not as much as in the aroma. Fair for its age.

Ungstrup (39097) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JUN 18, 2005
An opaque brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with chocolate being most dominant, but also contains hints of alcohol. The flavor is sour with notes of chocolate as well as alcohol - I think this one is too old.

Mads Langtved (2240) - Copenhagen K, DENMARK - JUN 16, 2005
This is a black stout with no head. End is extremely sour and infected. Too bad. This forces me to rate this beer low. Quite sweet still though.

Jeppe (2634) - Brooklyn, Alabama, USA - JUN 10, 2005
A pitch black stout with a thin brown head. Sharp roasted aroma with notes of coffee, sweet chocolate and toffee. Sourish roasted flavor, either from the age or from infection. Really bad!

madsberg (11817) - Søborg, DENMARK - JUN 10, 2005
Bottled: Pitch black coloured. Not much head. Sweet aroma of chocolate and some fruit. Sweet, fruity, light spiced and coffee flavour. Rather bland flavours. Some sourness is there, probably due to the age of the bottle. Ends on a dry light sour note. Rather boring beer.

Hildigöltur (5103) - København, DENMARK - JUN 7, 2005
Bottle. Thanks Clark. Very dark brown coloured. Aroma of chocolate. Cheesy and rather sour flavour. Thin.

auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - MAY 27, 2005
Whoa! Rich burst of creamy rich dove chocolate, dominating. A light note of coffee. Clearish dark chocolate brown, like Coca-cola. Uh-oh. This is sour. Is there cherry juice in this shit? No carbonation. Salty sweet cherry flavor. God knows when this was bottled or where it sat all these days. Not like infected sour bad, just like lemon or cherry juice in the beer. Hops aren’t really there or have faded a lot. Maybe all this is characteristic of this beer. Doesn’t taste particularly light struck. But geez, NO carbonation. Palate is a little watery but very sweet and tangy. A little viscous coating burnt apple. Strongish dark roasted coffee aftertaste.

Eyedrinkale (3235) - Astoria, New York, USA - APR 18, 2005
12 oz bottle. You know somethings up when the head dissapears and looks like a week old cola poured into a glass. Aroma is wet cardboard and coffee. Taste is pretty much the same. This was my first bottle of this and if I sent this out to anyone in trade, I’m sorry. I’ll replace it.
