Tap at whole foods, Auburn Hills. Pours dark chestnut, creamy tan head. Christmas Stout, sweet potato, cinnamon, roasted malt, chocolate. Flavor is similar. on tap @ Party Town (Friday Night Flights) / Florence KY --- Opaque brown/black color, beige rim head, dots of lace. Taste is heavy malt laced with, yes, sweet potato. Pours basically black with a big head and nice lacing on the glass.
The aroma is roasty and earthy with some light sweetness. It’s somewhat spicy smelling and certainly features sweet potato.
The flavor is chocolaty and lightly smoky with a nice sweetness to it. The bitterness is mild but comes off in a sort espresso kind of way. The sweet potato flavor is pretty forward but also is pretty well controlled. There is some light caramel.
Everything plays well together in this one for sure.
Draft sample. The beer is a darker brown with a mhaki head of foam. The aroma is very reminiscent of sweet potatoes and brown sugar, like what you would have for a holiday meal. tap - Pours near black and smells of roasted malt and chocolate. It tastes of sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and maybe a little spice. Honestly I don’t notice anything that tasted or smelled like sweet potatoes, but it’s an enjoyable stout just the same.

6 oz. pour at Liquor Barn (Jefferson Commons). Aroma: Fairly straightforward chocolate with a lighter sweet, starchy component. Not as blatantly sweet potato infused as Lazy Magnolia’s sweet potato beer. Appearance: Solid black pour with light carbonation holding up a foamy light tan cap. Flavor: Lightly sweet chocolate malts up front with a touch of sweet potato towards the finish, which is mostly dry. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish.
