UPDATED: JAN 5, 2007 Draught. Appearance is apple cider with small white head that quickly dissapates. Minimal lacing. Aroma and flavor are nutmeg and cinnamon. Unsure if real pumpkin was used in the mash. Overall, too weak. It is diifficult to find the right balance in a pumpkin ale. New England’s brewers seem to have a cornerstone on this style.

Tap. Poured clear copper color with an average off-white frothy head that was mostly lasting with very good lacing. Solid pumpkin with far east spice aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy spiced pumpkin flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid beer. On tap at Eccentric. Pours a light orange with a pumpkin beer smell to it that is decent but not distinctive. Flavor is the same. Decent pumpkin beer. On draft at Bells. The pour is a dark orange color with a thin ring of bright white head and a pretty decent bit of lace. The aroma is definitely spicy. There isn’t a lot of pumpkin at first, but the spices really dominate it. I’m not overly crazy about the level of spice here. The pumpkin is almost fake and forced. The flavor starts off with a decent pumpkin to it, but then it goes to a forced extract type of flavor. Not good. The auxiliary spices are just more pronounced once the fake pumpkin comes in. The mouth feel is thicker and heavy with a surprising lack of carbonation and a lightly spicy finish. It’s really strange. It had polromise until it was blatantly made with fake pumpkin. Sample at Bell’s on 1/28/16. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma of anise, cinnamon and malt. Malty flavor with anise before a spicy finish.

Draft to taster at the brewpub. This batch is 6.5%, and the beer should be unretired. Looks solid; a slightly hazy caramelish orange with eggshell head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells very spice-forward with unsweetened pumpkin. Not what I would describe as inviting. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel with a notable vegetal bitterness. Not good. On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Translucent slightly hazy orange body, thin, quickly dissipating off-white head. Aroma of classic pumpkin pie spices (primarily nutmeg and cinnamon). Flavor the same as the aroma, with a very light bready malt backbone. The palate had enough depth to carry the pumpkin spices, but these pumpkin ales are almost always simplistic beers otherwise.
