COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ongoing barrel blend series is named Barn Owl, as a nod to the wise and exacting animal that keeps watch over the farmhouse. Released sporadically throughout the year, just as soon as we deem the barrels ripe for the picking, these beers will be one-off creations never to be replicated again. No. 6 is a Sour Red Ale, aged for 2-3 years in oak barrels blended onto blueberries and is a deep ruby purple with lively carbonation reminiscent of delicious Lambrusco. It has an effervescent, rich red wine, fresh berry, and Flemish red nose. Made with 200 grams per liter of blueberries this beer has dry wine tannins rendering it one to savor or crush (responsibly). Yes we will be using blueberries again!

czar (10001) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 4, 2018
bottle shared by mathieuc, thanks man! pours hazy bright and dark purple with a nice pink-purple cap offering some retention and lacing. tart oaky blueberries, not the brightest but still the best you can get from this fruit as it seems, mild intricate spices, leafy lightly bittering notes. moderate carbonation, light body, tart woodsy spicy finish. very nice (american-like) blueberry barrel-aged tart ale.

Bottle - Dark berry and some light cinnamon notes. Deep reddish with a small white head. Soured berry and an acidity in the finish. Not sure the berry pops or maybe it’s just me.

500mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a deep dark purple-ish red with a small beige head. Aroma brings out deep tart blueberries, some skins, oak and red wine tannins. Flavour is along the same lines, with tart blueberries, oak, and red wine tannins. The blueberry character is somewhat muted toward the middle and end of the palate. Very pleasant.

neongolden (2271) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 22, 2018
(500ml bottle shared @ the brewery, Jan 22/18) Pours a clear deep purple-red with almost no head. Aroma is rich and fruity, notes of crushed fresh blueberries, big rich southern French red wine, light tart-sour notes that are mostly lactic, touch of berry skin, oaky tannic notes dancing about. Flavour is not quite as massively fresh blueberry, dropping into red wine vibes with a mix of blueberry and red grape, tannic fruit skins, dry oaky quality, lightly tart but more lactic, more crushed berries in the back end, low bitterness, smooth, finishes quite wine like. Medium-bodied, slightly zippy carbonation. Really nice, the blueberries dominate the nose but aren't quite as impressive on the tongue, not unusual though. Nice balance throughout.

[Bottle (500ml) shared w/ GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o GregClow] Pours a neat-looking cranberry colour along with an average size diminishing frothy pinkish-white head. Nice aroma of tart berries, light herbs, yeast and a touch of wood -- but mainly berries. Flavour of slightly tart berries and some wood. Average bodied. Loved it.
