COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our annual imperial saison, the 2013 Blitzen was brewed with plum and lemon. The beer has a floral aroma, subtle notes of plum flesh, and a refined tartness on the palate.

Bottle (500 ml), split 3-ways. Another bottle unfortunately forgotten deep down the cellar so 3+ years old now. Hazy orangey-copper with a medium off-white head, good retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma is lemony with perfumey/floral notes, peppery yeast, mild malt spiciness, alcohol notes and hints of cardboard/oxidation. Taste is mildly tart but it seems to be associated with lemon and nothing more, perfumey/floral notes, mild spiciness, alcohol and oxidation notes. Medium body. Good carbonation. Fruity and lemony finish. It’s heavy and probably is smoother because it’s a few years old so I wouldn’t have liked it fresh I think. Very mild oxidation notes. Lemony forward strong/boozy Saison.

500ml bottle. Copper in colour with a long lasting white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of spice, pepper, citrus and floral hops, yeast. The flavour is of white wine, yeast, pepper spice, cirtus, some sourness, a hint of alcohol. Warming mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, warming, spicy. A lot of white wine in this, really delicious.

Bottle from the brewery - just over a year old. Slightly hazy orange-gold with a thin white head. Fantastic aroma of tart fruit, Belgian yeast, pepper, slight phenolic note. Flavour starts with raisiny malt before the slightly funky tartness kicks in - lemon and tart plum quite noticeable, even in this aged form. Finish is vinous and slghtly yeasty. Very nice!

Pours a hazy strong golden with a medium offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of perfumey yellow fruits, lemons and pepper. Taste is not too sweet and even a little tart, offers more meyer lemons and spices. Alcohol is somehow well hidden, I thought it would have been some boozy swill but it’s not. Body is medium and carbonation quite aggressive. Overall this was drinkable and even enjoyable to some extent, but I fail to see how I would come back to that. It is the exact opposite of what "saison" means to me now, really.

Bottle from the brewery.
Pours a cloudy orange with a huge fluffy white head. Smells strongly of lemon, grass, cookie dough and candy. Candy sweetness, lots of lemon, plum skin and general juiciness. Some tartness in the finish. Pretty tasty and dangerously drinkable. 2014-04-05
