Bottle, 2014 thanks to SolidFunk. Pours opaque black, small tan head, dissipates fairly quickly with some lacing. Aroma is licorice, brandy, roasted malt, molasses. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, heavy licorice initially, fades a bit with time. burnt roasted malts, molasses and brandy. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Interesting but not exceptional. 500ml bottle (thx, L.-P. B.!). Vintage 2014. Bottle 0316/2100. Pours an oily almost black with a dark brown head. Aroma is barrel and some burnt sugar notes. Similar taste. Thx, God, that it is not such burnt sugar bomb as 3Mins to Midnight or Skeleton Key, but base is the same in my opinion. Also it is not so thick, despite it is 12.2% ABV and was pouring so oily. Keg at Ratebeer Best Beer Festival. 31/01/2016. a viscous jet black coloured pour with a loose dark tan head. Aroma is smoked peat, meaty, salted. Flavour is composed of tangy salted roast, bitter roast earth, bitter coffee. Palate is medium full bodied, moderate carbonation and a woody finish. Lingering tangy bitter coffee. Totally pitch black. No head. Smells fantastic. Cocoa and liquor. Vanilla. Yum. This is tasty. Loads of dark chocolate. cognac with vanilla. Oak. Cocoa finish like a hugely cocoa forward cookie

On tap at Ratebeer Best. Pours a very dark brown with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is chocolate, roast, cognac, wood, vanilla. Medium body, roast, wood, vanilla, cognac, nice sweetness, very nice.

I wasn’t gonna drink this tonight but once I found out Season 7 of Walking Dead had started it was just such a perfect beer to crack and pair it with:
Bellwoods Bring out Your Dead 2015 Vintage Imperial Stout Aged for 12 months in Cognac Barrels.
Inky black with a rusty head that verged on purple but didn’t stick around. If the dead are coming you tend not to linger I guess.
Awesomely intense aroma: Cacao, treacle, sweet berries & stonefruit from the cognac but the stout mellowed that out though there’s still some of that 13% boozy heat apparent.
Body as thick as motor oil but with a somewhat sharp carbonation. The stout gives you coffee grounds, tobacco, coarse cooking chocolate then the cognac throws in some berry syrupy sweetness, heat and charred wood character.

2015 bottle from trade with Jeffrey. Aroma: strong licorice, candied fruits, raisins, some barrel notes of wood and alcohol. App: black with a tiny burgundy tint, small brown head, not much retention. Taste and palate: medium to full body, lots of those candied fruits are back in mouth, liquoreux, alcohol and really subtle bitter finish. Overall: as soon as I poured it in my glass I could smell strong barrel notes but those faded away really fast and the candied fruits took the 1st place in this aroma which is kind of sad since I don’t appreciate that much in any kind of beer. It’s good, really good but not exactly the kind of aroma and taste I would have expected from an imperial stout aged on cognac barrels for 12 months.
