Reserve bottle at the brewpub. Aromas of oak, dark chocolate and cherries, very rich aroma. Very dark with big bubbled head. Roasty coffee with woody undertones, hints if dark chocolate and cherries. Wow I had forgotten how great this beer is.

500ml bottle courtesy of Sammy (828 of 1629) Robust aroma of dark roasted malts, roasted meat, prunes, cognac, and dark chocolate, with hints of vanilla. The taste is moderately bitter and complex. Roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruit, a touch of candied sweetness, with a bitter finish. The bitterness continues into the aftertaste and is accompanied with a wonderful cognac warmth. Full body and medium carbonation. Round, smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a winner! Excellant example of an Imperial Stout. Many thanks Sammy!

Listigovers (1174) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 9, 2016
Oily black pour, small head. Smells like a herbal bitter, very strong, cognac obviously. Flavor it’s huge, dark chocolate, candy fruit, very full bodied, no harshness despite alcohol warmth, very well balanced. Dessert in a glass, exceptional.

Tasted a small sample at a BeerThief gathering, thanks to groulxsome! Another extreme dark Bellwoods beer that stains the glass. Nice. Aroma is more cognac and it also smells very boozy. Nice! Feel is very thick and full. Taste is great: cognac but also roasty and molasses. Great beer!

Bottle: #1238/1699: Thanks Pushkinwow: Chouffe glass: Deep dark almost pitch black body with a creamy brown head/lacing. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, fudge, rum, wood, raisin in alcohol, marzipan, brown sugars, sweet tar, mocha, dessert like! Very nice! Flavour is deep and dark: roast, coffee, cognac, chocolate, mocha, malt roast, light liquor tone, bitters, some wood, raisin/prunes, light earthy and a leather tint, some brown sugars and a rum tint. Very nice! Aftertaste is roast with bitters, some brown fruit and sugars and cognac, rum and some chocolate. Low carbo, silky oily mouthfeel, full bodied. Wow, really good! Thick, rich and full! Quality sipper!

500ml bottle. Super dark chocolate colour, slight brown around the edges, small milk chocolate head. Cognac, dark sugar, slightly burnt caramel aromas. Really dark taste, molasses and raisins. Body is super thick and sticky. Overall, this is intense. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle. 2013 release. Pitch black in colour with a thin but lasting tan coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is very roasty, lots of dark chocolate, coffee, some smoke, wood, light alcohol. The flavour is lightly sweet, lots of wood, moderate alcohol, dark chocolate and huge roast, some dark fruits. Warming mouthfeel, medium/large body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, warming, rich. Really nice stuff. Not many beers transfer well from the barrel for me but this is really nice. As a great richness to the Hellwoods.

500ml bottle. 2015 13%. Pours a decne black, light tan head. Aroma is cognac, cocoa, sweet malt. This is not hugely boozy one of the better barrel aged beers ive come across in a while. This put me on my ass though at 13% for a 500ml. Wish it wouldn’t have but oh well.
