COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In life, Jutsu is all about stealthy ninja techniques (well actually techniques, skills, methods, tricks, or spells according to Wikipedia) but in beer it’s a fantastically balanced pale ale. Easy drinking with low bitterness. And if Jutsu is the talented sidekick, Double Jutsu is the dazzling superhero. Early in 2016 we devised a plan to take our fan favourite pale ale, and bump up the alcohol and dry hop. What has emerged is a refreshing, balanced, but juicy IPA that provides a more intense hop experience.

Bottle from Canada, drank w Matt on 20th anniversary of HK handover. Pours a bright hazy orange with no head. Heavy resin bitterness, very lemony, melon, grapefruit, pith, stony and fizzy. Body is citric, smooth, bitter, fizzy carbonation. Very nice! Lots of bright and stony bitterness.

HKdIPA (853) - HONG KONG - JUL 1, 2017
Bottle from Bellwoods Brewery in Toronto at home in HK. Hazy bright straw yellow pour with limited bubbly white head. Aroma is lemon and orange zest, juicy, bright, and pithy. Taste follows with sharp sharp citrus zest bitterness with tart finish and boozy warmth. Tingly carbonation. Lasting pithy bitterness. Really good. Definitely get again.

Spab (4124) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 10, 2017
500 ml bottle from Hafis Road bottle shop. Pours a murky orange/peach colour with small white head. Aroma is juicy tropical fruit with a fairly assertive spiciness and some cereal grains. Flavour is juicy melon, grapefruit and tart pineapple with some resin and almost peppery spiciness and some cereal maltiness. Rather pronounced bitterness. Alcohol is subtle. Quite nice.

(500ml bottle from the brewery, bottled mid-April) ~1mo at time of drinking. Pours a hazy medium gold with a big eggshell head that fades to a cap with lace. Aroma is powerfully dominated by canned peaches, with a general preserved fruit cup vibe, citrus zest, orange especially, and a bit of sweet malt. Flavour has some candied orange, light stone fruit, a bunch of spicy, coniferous, peppery qualities, a touch floral, malt is slightly bready and softly sweet. Overall bitterness light to moderate for style. Medium bodied, soft carb, hint of alcohol. The bottles I’ve had are not all super-fresh, but I feel like recent Bellwoods IPAs are good on the nose and don’t live up on the tongue.

Bottle from the brewery. Slightly hazy golden-orange, small white head. Aroma comes across as a fairly straightforward IPA from the modern juicy side of the style, with nice tropical fruit and ctirus notes. The flavour has the same notes - orange, pineapple, papaya, lime - but goes in some other directions as well - peppery herbs, spruce tips. candied grapefruit, a curious hint of rosewater. Medium bodied, and dangerously well-hidden alcohol. Fantastic.

DerWeg (1727) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2017
Herbaceous bitterness over a spicy hop OK, I’ll tropical and melon fruit is sweet and a hint tart, creamy vanilla, seems a bit abrupt and hard. Has some raw cereal and a little sulfur matchstick. Nose is bitter fruit – sweet and bready, challenging, teetering on weirdness but then gets good, nice peppery hop finish.

Smells delicious, with mango and grapefruit prominent. More of the same on the tongue. Bitter and delicious. #beersaint beer share

Pour on tap at the brewery, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of big juicy orange, melon, lemon peel, hints of stone fruit with a touch of white fruit. Taste was a mix of orange, white fruit, grapefruit, slight pine, dank notes with a hint of bread, finishing slightly bitter. Nice.
