A one-off double IPA focusing on Nelson Sauvin hops. With great body and a beautifully balanced bitterness, this new double IPA showcases aromatics of cedar and pepper, with bright flavours of grape, tropical fruit, citrus, subtle caramel, and a dry finish. Dangerously drinkable. Malts Munton’s Pale, Carahell, Carafoam, Rye, Wheat Hops Nelson Sauvin Yeast American Ale

Tasting at Matt’s, marked July 16 2015
Hazy light amber color. Pungent aroma, dry, lean mouthfeel, the malt flavor is a bit biscuity, not impressive, but very good hop flavor, pungent resins, some cedar peel and passion fruit; strong bitterness in the final.
Very good.

Draft - Nice lemon and grassy notes. Cloudy gold with a small white head. Grassy, little dank and light bitterness. Nice.

Bottle from the brewery. Lots of floaties/sediment in the bottle, but a slow and careful pour gives a nice and mostly clear honey-orange body with a small white head. Aroma seems subdued at first, but starts to develop nicely as the beer warms up, with notes of caramel, grapefruit oil, tart gooseberry jam, a hint of spruce, and a background suggestion of freshly cut wood. Flavour isn’t quite so complex, but is no less enjoyable, with big notes of gooseberry and grapefruit, some caramel malt sweetness to balance, a bit of pepper and pine, and a warm but not boozy finish. Excellent!

[7397-20150719] Tap. Peanut shell and toasted grains aroma. Hazy, bright orange body with a medium-lasting foamy white head and some lacing. Bitter orange peel grains and fruity grass flavour. Medium-full body. Nice balance. (8/4/8/4/16) 4.0

Orange appearance. Hazy. Thin head. Slightly funky hay-like aroma. Good, strong bitterness that isn't overpowering.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Nose brings out tangy citrus hops, some grass, almost herbal notes, and a good balance of biscuity malt. Flavour is robust, with tangy citrus hops dominating, slight herbal grass, and a touch of biscuity malt. Excellent balance. Really wonderful stuff.

500 mL bottle. Pours burnished amber with a short lived cap of white head. Nose is sappy and rife with dank, musky pine, grape, guava, deep woods and spicy rye. Bready malts with modest caramel undertones. Mid palate sweetness with a bitter back end and a dry, spicy finish. Sticky and full mouth feel with moderate carbonation and a huge finale that hangs around. This is interesting stuff, a unique use of Nelson hops, and very good.

2015-07-19. Dark orange body modest beige head and lace. 3+ Aroma is lightly musty/musky, oily orange peel. Flavour is similar, musky oily orange citrus, sweetish core and occasionally astringent bitter accents. Leaves the tongue drier than you’d expect. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent but not quite what I was hoping for. Fruity character of the hops seems restrained. On tap at the brewpub, Toronto.
