September 14, 2013 - Zwanze Day at Bar Volo - on draught. Black pour, huge lasting rocky/fluffy tan head. Wheat/gluten aroma, middling roast, vague sourness, alcohol - meh. Taste woo! - lovely stuff, solid roast porter, barrel bugs for days, a little lemon - 8+ ... slick, light body, decent carbonation - quite dry, floral funky aftertaste with the roast. Doesn’t really drink as big as the ABV suggests .... kathryne (16) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 2, 2017
Strong, wintery beer, pairs well with meats and cheeses. Very flavourful and thorough.

500ml bottle #536/1563. Black in colour with a thin but lasting tan head, good retention, light lacing. The aroma is sour and acidic, dark fruits and malts, some sweetness. The flavour is a bit roasty, lots of plums, sour and funky, dark cherries, woody. Lightly sour mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with lots of fruit, funky. This is really good, mildly sour throughout but still has some of the characteristics of the stout. Excellent. GregClow (3403) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 6, 2015
Bottle from the brewery. Bottled in May 2013, consumed in April 2015. Deep almost-black with a thin tan head and subdued carbonation. Aroma and flavour both have a perfect balance of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, licorice, and - to quote the Cocteau Twins - "Cherry-Coloured Funk". A great combination of flavours in a beer that held up really well to two years of aging. TheKeywork (61) - Sudbury, Ontario, CANADA - APR 1, 2015
UPDATED: APR 16, 2015 Off the charts. This beer was a gamble at the price point but oh the wonders it unleashed. When you think of crafting a beer it doesn't get any better than this. One flavour leads to the next until it ends in a sourness that hits a perfect crescendo. So well put together it's scary.

Cola looking pour. Whole wheat toast aroma. Really acidic carbonation, tart and yeasty, interesting. DuffMan (10983) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 3, 2015
Bottle, 2013 vintage, #599. Dark brown, lively beige head, light lace. Dark malts, fruity lactic sourness that doesn’t overpower, corky undertones, creamy mouthfeel. Nice balance here, I like the overall rounded, gentle character. Travlr (27304) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - DEC 22, 2014

[5607-20130728] Tap. Yeasty roasted grains aroma. Black body with a quick foamy tan head. Sour yeasty roast flavour has a zesty citrus aftertaste. Medium-full body. Tasty. (7/3/8/4/16) 3.8
