Bottle thanks to Sammy. Pours dark brown tan head. Nose and taste of roasted caramel malt, cocoa, pine, citrus rind and earthy nuts. Medium body. mathieuc (4000) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 26, 2014
Pours a medium brown with red highlights and a small beige head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of piny hops, nuts and light chocolate. Quite nice and more american than traditional, even better! Taste is lightly sweet but you don’t perceive it as it moderately bitter. Flavors are of roasted malt and piny hops. Finish is on heavy roasted notes but never acrid or ash-y. Body is medium and carbonation a bit spritzy but really medium-high. Overall a really nice american brown ale, Bellwoods really deserves the hype it’s getting! jinroh (2448) - ESTONIA - AUG 27, 2014
Rated on June 7th, 2014. Pours dark brown with a nice beige foam head. Aroma improves while the beer warms, has roast chocolate, toffee and has a good hop bite. Taste has several levels. The first sip is hop-bitter and nicely carbonated, then it evolves into nice long roast flavour. Excellent balance, long bitter chocolate aftertaste. Truly enjoyable.

Draft at the source. Dark amber color, tan head. Aroma of baking brownies. Taste is toasted brownie with some hoppy bitterness. tom10101 (6297) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 4, 2014
Bottle (500 ml). From Sammy, thanks! Brown with a medium mostly lasting beige head and some lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, tobacco, piney notes, light citrus and caramel. Taste is slightly sweet with chocolate, pine, caramel, tobacco, light citrus and moderate bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. Moderately lasting piney aftertaste. Good hoppy Brown Ale. Decent drinkability and good balance. Well done.

At brewery. Pours a dark reddy brown with an off white head. Grassy, bready, caramel aroma... Woody, pine, citrus, a little dark fruit, orange... Good balance. Enjoyed this one.

Deep mahogany color. Very deep chocolate malt, woody character, with a touch of tobacco leaf notes. The mouth is very malty, med full bodied, rich and characterful. The wood and chocolate malt stand above the hops. Big woody chocolate finish. Excellent example of the style. Another winner from Bellwoods. jonno (3011) - JAPAN - JUN 7, 2014
Rich, hearty, woody. Full on toasty malt with a nice hop sidekick. Well put together and dangerously drinkable. Helsdon (426) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 22, 2014
The last beer of my recent run to Bellwoods, which resulted in discovering some very nice beers. Didn’t expect the hoppy IPA-ness of this one. Pours a dark opaque brown with a finger of tan head. Nose of this guy is being taken over by piney hops. The taste is cereal, but mostly HOPS (pine, floral). The hops bitterness lingers, but isn’t unpleasant. Not a bad beer but the hops supersedes the brown ale characteristics. MartinT (10155) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 11, 2014
My Bottom Line:
Citrusy fruitiness and delicate hazelnut sweetness move into earthy, coniferous hop resins in this slick Brown IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam tops the darkest brown.
-Milk chocolate and candied fruit also roam about.
-This is as professionally rendered as any other Bellwoods bottled brew I’ve had.
-Mouthfeel is quite effervescence and drier than expected.
