COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
wild ale w/ passion fruit blend of 1 and 2 year barrels Motley Cru is our anniversary release, with the only requirement being that the final beer must incorporate a blend of various barrels. This year's edition is a wild ale with passion fruit blended from two mixed grain ales (containing pale ale barley malt, wheat, oats, and rye). Both new American oak barrels, and old use (wild ale program) barrels from Niagara and Prince Edward County provide an eclectic range of wild and local yeast strains, and several hundred kilos of passion fruit puree create a fantastic balance of old world sour flavours and bright tropical notes. Extra time spent conditioning in the bottle provides a lively carbonation. What is smells and tastes like: A crisp acidity, healthy oak backbone, bursting passion fruit aroma, and plenty of wild ale funk. A crazy balance of fuzzy peach, five alive, bell pepper, and cracked pepper.

Gold pour, fairly hazy, thumb-sized white head that fizzes out into a small ring. Big passionfruit in the aroma, sour, tart stonefruit. Tart up front, loads of passionfruit, light citrus, apricot, vinous. Bold flavour without killing the palate - not always easy to do.

Without a doubt the most intense beer from the Motley Cru series so far. The acidity (which is amplified by the passionfruits and lemony notes) is borderline too much for drinkability but the intense funk give this beer a nice layer of complexity.

A 750ml bottle at the brewery, 2017 vintage, poured into a Bellwoods stemmed wine glass. It was a mostly clear golden straw colour with a thin white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse lacing. Aroma was sourish and tropical, passionfruit, apricot and pineapple. Taste was tart, sour, passionfruit and apricot with hints of lemon. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall it was light, refreshing and easy to drink.

2017/08/02 - Pours a hazy deep gold colour with a soapy, white head that quickly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is big tart lemon and passionfruit, burnt rubber and light barnyard with vinous and vinegar notes. Taste is juicy tart lemon, green grapes, passionfruit, vinegar and barnyard funk. Mouthfeel is medium with sharp carbonation and a long, dry, acetic finish. Really nice tartness and funk. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Farmhouse Fest, pours a cloudy dull blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out heaps of fresh passionfruit, light wild yeast and more juiciness. Flavour is loaded with passionfruit, with tons of fruity juiciness. Lovely depth. Excellent.

Bottle shared at Hollands Spoor Tasting Club, Breda Edition. Very hazy pale golden with a ring white head. Aroma of lemonade, citrus and passion fruit. Flavour is above light sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Big carbonation on this one. Fairly clear golden pour. Oh my, huge aroma on this one. Very funky and sour, some slight barnyard, moderately bright. Taste is immediately sharp and sour, lots of funky flavour, really crazy palate, a bit of balsamic palate but not flavour. Very complex, long aftertaste, tons of bacteria. Very dry, restrained fruitiness, still noticeable and like a concentrated citrus. A bit of metallic brett. Just delicious, best Motley I’ve had.

Sour aroma, with the carbonation just popping out of the glass. More sourness on the tongue with a hint of passion fruit in the finish. Lemon, green grapes and a bit of funk.
