Draft at brewery. Dark amber, not black, do I concur with the choice of dunkel over schwarzbier. Roasty, smoky aroma. Taste adds some nutty character and done sweetness with a mild bitter bite to close it out. Well done! Sarlacc83 (2287) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 29, 2016
Tap at the brewery. 4 oz sample.
A: Mahogany color, thin creme color head.
N: Charcoal, coffee, cocoa, brown sugar, touch of caramel, plenty of earth and loam, plenty of malt, and some pine.
T: Bitter and smokey. Lightly sweet.
M: Light body, no alcohol, spritzy carbonation.
O: Big time dunkel. Lots of roasted flavors here, but I can’t feel like there’s something missing to bring this to the next level. Still, quite good. hayduke (5212) - Eureka, California, USA - OCT 7, 2015

Some hop aroma. Bronze mid brown coloured and fruity with a blackcurrant flavour. A hint of dryness and bitterness in a malt finish. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - AUG 10, 2010
Draught at the brewpub. Served with a wedge of lime on the rim. Dark brown color with some red highlights and an off-white head. Toasty and lightly roasty malt, and light corn in the aroma. Light caramel and roasted malt flavors and a clean lager feel. Similar to Negra Modelo bit roastier and dryer. Light body and smooth texture. Pretty nice. 19Ei8hty (1166) - Washington, USA - JUN 6, 2009
Pronounced toasted malt backbone - somewhat chewy and bready -highlighted with a light smoke note and a very peaty earth character.
