On tap at the brewpub. Pours a reddish brown color with a small white head. The aroma is spicy notes, some heavy sugary sweetness. This is brewed with Maple Syrup and it certainly shows, some sugary sweetness, spices, like a Belgian Amber.

Lubiere (14151) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 12, 2009
A nice reddish amber ale with a thick creamy light moka head. Fruity esters melding with maple in aroma. In mouth, a nice caramel malt, with fruity notes, woody maple, a very nice ale. Medium bodied. On tap at brewpub, April 24 2009.

Pours a copper color with a thin white head. Strong aroma of maple syrup with some malt. The maple is a bit less intense in the falvor and the malt is a bit more present. The palate is medium and oily. The maple is very present, but as a dubbel, it’s not great.

MartinT (10036) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 3, 2008
My Bottom Line:
Authentic maple syrup sweetness and wooden character is swept into slender toasted maltiness until clean hop bitterness tactfully closes each sip.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the clear brownish copper.
-The flavor profile is not as sweet as the had announced, and drinkability is enhanced.
-The body is leaner than I would’ve expected from a maple-flavored Dubbel.
-The Dubbel character is overtaken by the maple and so the beer becomes a decent maple-flavored ale, more than anything else.

On tap at the brewpub.

(Rating #1011)

Comments: An interesting experiment, but the maple’s fermentation seems once again difficult to control. Rather woolly, ropey yeast finish and a generally stagnant sweetness.

rederic (3344) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 3, 2007
Dark brown color, with a creamy beige head, yeasty nose, with notes of wineyness, faint toasted malt, some acidic berries fruitiness, not sweet maple accent in the aroma, follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity winey, sourness character, hint of sweet toasted malt, no maple syrup flavor here, with some pruney, date, and raisiny notes, with a faint floral hop, leading towards a fruity, malty alcoholic finish. This beer needs some works.

Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 1, 2007
(Batch brewed for 1rst anniversary 28 april 2007). Clear ruby body topped by a small beige head. Strong aroma of wet earthy. Not much of the advertised maple on the nose. In the mouth things get worse. The beer has a somewhat lactic taste, borderline yogurt. That lactic taste really doesn’t sit well with the other flavours which include watery caramel, nutty/earthy malts and a little fruity touch of berries. Weird and not very pleasant mix here. The expected maple flavour really takes the back-seat (which is not a bad thing to me). The hops are there but can’t seem to find a way to express themselves. Carbonation is a lot of soft small bubbles and is appropriate here. Overall I was left with a “wet cloth” feeling. A big disappointment considering how good the beers from this brewpub have been lately. Something went wrong. Ha well, accidents happen. I even owe my being born to one.

Quevillon (3172) - Boisbriand, Quebec, CANADA - APR 29, 2007
