(Rating #835)

The batch served at the brewpub on 8/21/08 stated 7% abv - perhaps a slight recipe change? - anyway, this was another great beer from them - hazy golden pour, with a soapy, thick head - lovely aroma of lavender-steeped honey, wildflowers, a bit of spices - the flavor starts honey sweet, but on the whole it is not as sweet as the aroma suggests - a lot of herbal character and subtle peppery spice cut off the sweetness - finishes refreshing, and a bit hoppy and crisp - nice.

Hops are pungent and spicy in the aroma along with some tart fruit character. Clear golden coloured body is topped by a large white head that lasts throughout and laces the sides of the glass. Biscuity and toasty malt flavours show nicely beneath the dominant spicy, floral, perfumey hops with decent bitterness. Light medium body is quite dry and well-attenuated with strong carbonation that engages the tongue. Sampled on tap at the brewpub.

Golden ale with a thick creamy white head. Pleasant aroma of perfumey malt, with light orange and fruity esters, and some light fragrant hopsé In mouth, a crisp sweetish malt, crisp german hops, some caramel notes. Reminiscent of fresh De Koninck. On tap, June 17, 2006.

Bu sur place, 20 oz. Belle couleur blonde, petit collet.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2008 Cloudy golden pour with a thin white head. Nice aroma of bread, honey and yeast. Good flavor of honey, bread, yeast and hops with lingering dryness. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Previous rating : 6/3/6/3/13 3.1

My Bottom Line:
Firm cereals develop a silky mouthfeel before cracking herbal, wooden hops soar, concluding another balanced, clean, and very enjoyable Benelux Belgian-style Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam skirts the hazy blonde.
-The cereals become biscuity at times.
-The wooden hop bitterness grows on you.
-The small, prickly bubbles and rather round mouthfeel show the beer’s North American heritage.
-Spicy yeastiness expresses itself mostly in the nose.

On tap at the brewpub.

Tap at the Brewpub: Pours golden with good clarity and a white ring of head. Lightly sweet pale malts in the aroma- a touch biscuity with a fresh yeast note. Fluffy feel- softly sweet pale malts presence in the flavor gives a bread crust character, a honey-ish back note, and some lightly sweet phenolics. A solid, sessionable Belgian Ale.

Tap at Benelux. Pale straw colour. Aroma shows a light apricot nose, along with clove and banana. The flavour is pretty nice. Although this yeast has been done to death, the brewer here has managed to restrain its inherent sweetness. A light spicy hoppiness on the back. Nice clovey finish on the back of the palate. A very respectful Belgian Ale. Warming bring up some more berryish fruit. It’s nice.
