341ml bottled on 2011-04-19, drank on 2011-12-02. Pour dark brown with a small non lasting head. Aroma of spirits and vanilla. Taste is strong with this whiskey warm feel but very enjoyable. Nuts and oak notes. Mouthfeel is sweet and oily. Medium carbonation.

Bottle at brewpub. Slightly tart oaky vanilla and butterscotch aroma with a little toasted pumpernickel, raisins, and plums. Slightly hazy ruby dark brown under a thick, beige blanket. Slightly sour dried fruit flavour with a blend of citrus hops and toasted dark bread. Medium bitterness. Medium body, slightly warming, medium carbonation.

A triumph in American strong ale brewing. The bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit and earthy hops work beautifully with a strong malt base featuring caramel and some roasted nuts. All in impeccable balance, especially after aging in the bottle for a year after the 6-month barrel aging.

Perhaps unfairly rating this as it’s 3 years old. Low carb, not still brown beer with a short head. Aroma of fruits and cardboard, some whisky as well. Taste is dark fruits, vanilla, oak, booze. Still very boozy and very sweet. Not too bad though.

Évaluation no. 112 Août 2011.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2013 2011 vintage. Pours a dark brown with not much head except for a small white ring that leave some light lacing. Aroma of caramel, booze and not much else. This is a lot tamer than when it was fresh, though. Taste is not cloyingly sweet but still packs quite a bunch. Flavors of caramel again, butter and slight oxidation. Bourbon is a lot less "in your face" than it used to be. Warming alcohol. Body is medium-full, carbonation just fine. Not bad at all but I believe it will be going downhill and definitely past its prime.

This was their big beer of the night but wasn’t super balls-out. Really just their brown with barrel aging or something, but it doesn’t quite work like the regular armada. Pours cloudy red with ok lacing and little head. Aroma of oak, booze and tangy malt. Some fruit on nose. Finishes tangy sour. Een some florals in finish. Some barrel astringency and some sweet finish. Improves as it goes down and warms up, however. On tap at brewpub.

Big thanks to tommy for the bottle. Had the 2012 last week, right away I noticed that this one pours a little darker. The 012 had a metallic smell to it mixed in with the bourbon, this one is all smooth vanilla bourbon goodness, smells great. The taste is very rich, up front there is nice hits of vanilla and butterscotch, finishes with a hint of oak. The 12 was cloying and this is Anything but. Can’t believe how much better this is than the 12.
