probstblueribbon (3791) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 25, 2008
Glass at the brewpub, served cold. MR24/08.

App.: Very cloudy, orange-golden, no head. Aroma: Lots of bread dough and yeast, some coriander, a good dose of orange peel, lighter white pepper and funk, stone fruits. Palate: Medium-ish body, sharp effervescence. Flav.: Lots of peppery yeast, citrus, a bit fruity, minerals; a bit tangy and quite bitter, alcohol is well integrated, a bit floral and leathery.

Complicated, perplexing, a bit confused but enjoyable.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a thin white head. Good aroma of hay, yeast, spices and fruits. The flavor has a nice mix of yeast, hay, spices and fruits but it’s sweeter than what I expect in a saison. The body is medium with a creamy and lively texture.

Pineapple, mango, hay and pepper notes to the aroma. Really shows it’s lineage well (Dupont yeast). Clear deep golden coloured body is topped by a low, off white head that recedes to a thick ring with good lacing. Lightly musty and fruity flavour with haylike hops quickly eclipsed by clean maltiness. Aftertaste features surprising notes of anis, cola, mint and vanilla. Medium body with moderate and lasting carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub.

Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 1, 2006
Cloudy golden body with a very small white head. Rather strong aroma of candies and honey. Taste is very sweet, some spices, crisp malts, dried honey. The little unexpected bitterness quick bite wasn’t unpleasant. Nice beer just not what I expect from a Saison (Season). Maybe it’s a sign of time, with the climate changes, Seasons just ain’t what they used to be.

Any first impressions?
-A ring of foam circles the filtered(?) golden.
-The outgoing, spicy yeast grabs the nostrils with its herbal, bubblegummy fruitiness.
-The flavor profile is never boring, ranging from minty ginger to honeyed grain.
-The carbonation’s not quite frothy enough to emulate true Belgians, but the big bubbles are smooth, and the maltiness is lean, so all’s fine with me.

What if you dig deeper?
-The spicy finish offers drying, peppery, herbal bitterness.
-The filtration range should be loosened for more character, methinks.
-This is yet another very clean, drinkable beer from Benelux, which is not quite what I expect from Saisons.
-A hip, squeaky clean, stainless steel version of a Saison which actually works, believe it or not. Bravo!

On tap at the brewpub.

Draught. Clear orange coloured body with a white ring of head. The aroma is soapy and sweet with fruity contributions of pear, banana, and oranges. The flavourseems a bit cloyingly sweet at times with a lot of thick fruit substance and toasty bread. Agreeable carbonation.

rederic (3341) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 5, 2006
Slight hazy amber-orangeish hue, with a creamy white head, nice yeasty, fruity nose of ripe apples, with a cinnamon spiciness, hint of citrus fruits, crystal malt aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a crisp yeasty fruity character of ripe apples, with some spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, sweet pale malt, bready dough, with a subtle flowery hops, leading towards a fruity alcoholic, faint hops bitterness finish. So far the best beer brewed at Benelux.

(Rating #686)

DougShoemaker (3146) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 26, 2006
Aroma is spicey, malty and citrusy, hazy orange, tiny white head. Tangy sweet tasting malt, medium bodied, balanced, has a nice tongue tingle. Very good.
