Tap at the brewery. Great, round beer. Aromas of coffee, herbs, chocolate, and liquorice. Taste has a sweet start, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Dark brown, with a frothy white head. vipinvelp (4439) - Velp, NETHERLANDS - OCT 22, 2012
Black with brown thick foam head, sticking to lip and lacing to glass, just the way I like it. Aroma is bitter hops and chocolate. Taste is overwhelming bitter hops and yet chocolate and toffer present. Good long lasting bitter aftertaste. A good beer. (Montreal 201210) AGAquino (667) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 4, 2012
From notes, at Bar Volo. Pours a cloudy black with a nice foamy tan head. Nice hoppy aroma, toasted malts, dark chocolate and nice balanced hop bitter. czar (9094) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 16, 2010
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2012 on tap at brewpub. pitch black with a creamy dark beige head, very good retention/lacing. very floral, piney and tons of roastiness. light to medium body, velvety, average carbonation. very nice brew! Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 11, 2008
In short: A intensely hopped (American resinous hops) creamy stout. Could pass as a Black IPA. Very tasty and very very good.

How: Tap at brewpub. Freshly put on tap, first batch ever.
The look: Black body with a very small tan head
In long: Intriguing nose, roasted, fruity, rubbery, and a lot more. Taste is… well… tasty. Full body, lots of small bubbles, creamy and smooth mouthfeel even if a little sticky. Medium roasted level with distant black chocolate. So far it would be just an ok Stout. But man the hopping is just crazy in this one. Intensely hopped, very resinous with citrus fruits and pine-needles flavour. Distant reminder of Stone 11th anniversary. Wow in a in a matter of a few weeks Quebec got its two first Black IPAs ever, first the very good DDC Pénombre now this one (even better) calling itself a Stout although it could really pass as a Black IPA. This Black IPA trend is the best new trend to hit north-America in a very very long time. I’d say the best new trend since the mini-skirts.
The pour reveals a black color with brown highlights and a thin light brown head. Solid aroma of hops with roasted and slightly smoky malt. Superb flavor of hops with roasted malt, there’s some dryness and lasting bitterness in the end. I could drink a truckload of this beer and still want some more, it’s that good. blankboy (7699) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 14, 2010
Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2010’ . Pours black with a spare lasting bubbly tan head. Really nice hoppy aroma, I love it! Delicious flavour with lots of leafy green hops along with light roasted malt, some fruit, chocolate and a decent bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. A fantastic beer! glennmastrange (2871) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - FEB 20, 2014
Tap. Moderate to heavy malt and hop aromas of toasted bread, caramel, and pine resin, faint dough for the yeast, with hints of pepper and wood. Head is frothy, creamy, light tan with good lacing and legs and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts faint sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy, with a soft to lively carbonation. Great balance between malt and hops in this Black IPA, all dark and toasty stuff, and a perfect feel for the style. MJGG (952) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 13, 2008
(Rating #2062)
