Had on tap at the brewpub in a pint glass. Aroma is strong chocolate with slight coffee; flavor is mostly coffee/malt with a sour tang (is this the chocolate?), and a bitter malt finish, though little to no hop bitterness GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAR 4, 2008
Draft at the brewpub. Poured a nearly opaque black color with only a hint of ruby red light shining through. The head was paper thin, light brown, and reduced quickly. A bit of lace was left behind at the end. The aroma was of cocoa powder and more subdued coffee. The flavors were similar; distinct cocoa and coffee. It was sweet and fairly effervescent on the tongue, but there was also an unusual tartness that came from I don’t know where. It seemed out of place, though, and wasn’t insignificant. Imagine a hot chocolate with a couple added shots of coffee out of the office coffee pot. Cool it and carbonate and you have something reminiscent of this beer.
