33cl bottle shared between five at the 8th December 2014 Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange Group meeting: cheers Mat for bringing this. Dark brown body with a tanned topping. Struggled to find any ’chilli’ worth mentioning, mild flavours throughout to be honest, malty and slightly chocolate in nature but a bit of a let down with the alcohol level not helping the beers cause too greatly either. A weak Porter in depth, flavour and alcohol: expected so much more. caesar (7131) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - FEB 8, 2014
Bottled @ DDDH, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, hint of pepper. Dark malty bitterness in taste, bit creamy, slight spicy hint. I have had it before and can remember the spicy bite was a bit stronger. Nice and easy drinker and lots of flavor for a 4% beer. Borresteijn (7005) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - AUG 7, 2012
33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Almost black colour, beige head. Aroma of sweet soy sauce, hard roasted malts, some green chili/paprika, bit of caramel. Flavour is medium sweet, milk chocolate, hard roasted malts, some sweet soy sauce, light peppery hard roasted finish. Light bodied, full carbonation. Decent porter. Bottle from bierkoning - with many thanks. Pours ot of the bottle in a unclear dark brown, almost black colour, low head and medium body. Nose of roasted malt. Taste of leather, very bittersweet chocolat, torf, nuts, burnt malt and roast. Hints of smoke. Finsihes quite sweet with some espresso hints. Not that easy to drink, but very spicy and aromatic. mike_77 (6655) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - JAN 4, 2015
Black with quick fading head. Quite a strong flavoured beer. Dark malts and also a sweet nutty taste. Generally a sweet stout with just a light warming hint of chilli.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Medium sized darker beige light brown colored foamy head on top of a black colored beer.
Aroma has some good notes of oatmeal, roast, dust, chalk, coffee and chocolate.
Flavour has notes of dust, coal, roast, coffee, some chocolate, yeast, nuts, porridge, some coffee beans and malt toast with bitters and a light light spicy touch... Now we know...
Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, cacoa, malt toast, light hint of something spicy and some dusty coffee tones.
Low carbo, soft creamy mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller bodied and a creamy texture.
If I didn’t know about the pepper I wouldn’t have guessed it either. The pepper is not noticeable, but than again I love spicy food. Next to that it’s a decent beer, an absolutely for 4% ABV! Well done! MichaelAwesome (6519) - Wanne-Eickel, GERMANY - AUG 11, 2013
Thank you bierkoning for that one. Well, thank you beerkoning and not thank you Berghoeve for that smokey piwo. Tough one from start to end with some roasted malt and some chili in the aroma. Well, the smoked end and aftertaste kill all points. That´s it. kappldav123 (6100) - GERMANY - JAN 26, 2014
Thanks to WillemsUrenkel for that bottle. Looks really good. Beer in the glass dark black, nice head. Amazing aroma, warming-malty, stouty, a bit smokey. Starts intense malty, stouty, earthy. Gets milder and milder, but not washy, still soft-malty with some earthy-smokey notes. I like that beer! jaghana (6064) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - MAR 17, 2012
Bottle 33cl from bierkoning thanks a lot. A dark beer with huge brownish head. Nose is on smoked and coffee notes. Aroma is mostly dry on dark caramel, bitter chocolate with roasted notes and an astringent yeast note. Finish has dark chocolate and smokes notes, chili notes are low only perceptible in the peppery aftertaste. Not bad, for a low alcohol. DutchDrebus (5981) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - FEB 17, 2012
Bottle shared with benzai. Nice black colour with a big brown coloured head. Smells not much.. Bit coffeeish and spicy. Tastes very roasty, chocolate, not that spicy, just a bit warm. Only 4% abv, but a very rich taste. Another great berghoeve brew!
