3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the Berghoff. Clean amber color with a light stream of bubbles feeding a half-finger head. Malty smell that comes through in the taste, but it also carries an impression of salt. I had the same with the DortWunder the day before, and it may be simply the same water profile, which involves some calcium and sodium. So maybe Randy Mosher was going for a "house" lager style. But the malt is fuller to make up for it, and the hops are lighter as befits the style. I will have to try to dunkel to see if they do share some traits.
From tap. Pours clear and golden yellew. Small white head. Aroma is grassy and straw. Bitter and grassy flavoured. Dry and crisp bitter finish. dogfish120love (1364) - Westfield, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 3, 2015
Pours a golden hello with a white lacing. The aroma is caramel, bread with a hint of grass crossovert (13947) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 9, 2015
355ml twist off. Lighter pour than a typical american okto, which I appreciate. Typical berghof lagery aroma, sweeter malt but not overly caramally. Flavor is good, basic herb notes, nice fruitiness, rich and malty but not cloying like most us examples. Tastes like the stuff served in the actual tents. UPDATED: OCT 30, 2015 My initial rating of this stuff was an old bottle. Fresher, it is much better--as always. This is very bright amber w/ a white foamy head--rather pretty. It’s very solid malt w/ a nice floral hop nose. Slightly seet and bitter w/ medium body and carbonation. I’d drink this again.

Original rating:Oktoberfest isn’t necessarily a bad style but a lot of brewers don’t seem to be aware of that. This one is a pretty typical example of a malty German lager done poorly. It orange brown w/ a fine white head. It’s sweet is the main problem, which makes for a somewhat heavy brew w/ an emphasis on sugars rather than actual malt character. There are also some slightly unpleasant metallic notes esp. in the nose. Overall, this is kind of vaguely drinkable but there is really nothing especially good about it to make up for its problems. If you want a beer in this vein that is actually good check out Busch Signature Copper Lager, which is not only better but cheaper too.

Deep straw, thin head.
Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2.
Malty, buttery taste, faintly sour. Caramel, faint hops, burnt popcorn, diacetyl.
Bad keg lines, or traces of an infection? (2014-09-29)

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a light copper with a half finger of white head. Aroma of caramel and grains. Taste is similar. Lightly bitter with some herbal hops and light metallic notes. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Fizzy carbonation and a surprisingly long finish. Pretty good. Much better than I was expecting. BVery (11364) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - MAR 16, 2014
Bottle. Mostly clear golden yellow pour with a small spotty white head. Grains and light malt, but way too much metal character. Onslow (1532) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - JAN 17, 2014
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Light amber brew with small quickly fading head that soon fades. Aroma of light malt, cereal, some metal. Taste is mildly malty with a nice crisp finish - tart fruit and some bitter grass / hay. Thin palate. Enjoyable! Niko100 (2995) - Chicago, New York, USA - DEC 7, 2013
Draft; Light straw/gold color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of caramel malt, & dusty grain/hops; Flavor of malt, caramel, and some hops; Somewhat metallic - just decent. PGHbeer77 (571) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 13, 2013
10/13/13 Trade from Jamil. Weak scent of tart apples and grain. Pretty copper pour with a decent head. Lighter crisp feel. Nice tart bright flavor to a sweet malty cracker and grain quality. A solid Oktoberfest.
