Pretty good, but nothing special. Served from the tap in a g-d d-amn frozen shaker, so flavor might have been altered. Looks nice, with a red body and thick head. Flavor is nice and very Bock-ish, but not overwhelming and actually quite pleasant.

A shade darker Copper, Good Head, Some Lacing. Same as others from sample pack, lacks flavor sharpness. Bland and subdued. Tastes Malty, Light Bitter and finishes little sour. Enjoyed it the least from this sample pack. Drinkable, but meh... Pass it....

Bottle. Lightly sweet barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet caramel malt flavor. Nice clean lager but not really any typical bock characteristics.

Dark brown, almost opaque. Molasses, oatmeal, raisin, hint of walnut. Oily feel. Relatively sweet. Nice seasonal.

Bottle, just said ’winter ale’ on the label. Light oxidized roasted and fruity aroma. Dark brown, offwhite layer. Fullbodied, light oily mouthfeel - quite a bit residual sweetness, nutty, roast, herbal hop balance - not entirely harmonious IMO.

2.3
madvike (3264) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 19, 2012
Bottle - Deep mahogany pour with a thinnish tan head. Nose is moderately sweet, bready malt, with a bit of molasses and next to no hopping. Taste is watered-down sweet bread, muted toffee and raisin notes, and a mildly sweet malt finish. Ample carbonation fluffs up the body a bit, but it’s pretty slick and thin. About what I expected.

Aroma is malts, berries and an off note. The flavor is mild caramel malts, berries and a smooth finish.

bottle - Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. It has minimal aroma. The flavor is very sweet with some caramel. It tastes off though. I’m not sure what it is about it. I don’t think it’s infected, but whatever’s going on, it’s not good. Thin. Odd. Meh.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2012 Cola coloured, fluffy tan head. Ok, here’s where it gets strange...I looked at the other reviews and mine is in left field.....maybe a bad bottle....don’t know....here’s my take: Aroma is spice and Tomato...Taste is vaguely like a weak bloody mary mix....That’s what I got out of it....I’m going to try another just to check myself. Strangely, it wasn’t that bad. That’s my justification for the mid-range rating. I’ll get back to this. TAKE 2: Different bottle, (of course) purchased at different location.....same result, maybe not as much tomatoe-zing, but it’s there. Other reviewers report iron and metallics, maybe that’s what’s throwing me off. I’m going to let this stand and try next winter’s offering.

An unoffensive and forgettable brew, but decent enough to drink. Minimal bitterness. Mild maltiness. Faint notes of raisins or prunes. A little too subtle for me.
