3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft pint at the Berghoff Bar. New version reformulated by Randy Mosher and now brewed at Stevens Point. Now at 6.2% abv. I picked up a bit of spicy rye in the nose right away. Deep reddish brown color under a thin head. The palate holds on to that rye spice, and the malts stay to the light side. Advertised PN hops seem more like their peppery European cousins. Then again, I’m drinking this after a plate of Thai food with extra Sriacha. Caramel roast malt provides a canvas for the rye and spice to play.
Deep orange-red. Nose of toastep malt and fruit with mild hops. Flavor is burnt toast, dark fruit, and herbal hops. Lingering tart fruit. Not a great mixture... BeerInHeaven (487) - Brillion, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 5, 2016
pours clear copper amber with a medium white head. aroma is a blend of malt and citrus. The taste is pretty good. malt and some bright hops. a slightly peppery sensation on the finish with some mild bitterness. Hop presence is evident. Almost bordering on a mild IPA rather than an amber ale. Not bad at all. scarletfire65 (1513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 24, 2015
Bottle at home. Aroma is ripe strawberries, caramel, rye bread. Creamy carbonation. Flavor of toast, caramel, light smoke, white pepper, rye. The hop profile adds a definite "West Coast" flavor with pine resin and vague citrus. Dry finish with a distant berry like fruitiness. The finish is quick and clean, not much lingering bitterness. Straight forward, but remarkably well put together compared to the low score on here. miyauchi38 (1117) - chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 22, 2015

Clear red-brown with a fine head.
AROMA: sweet malts with a hint of toffee.
Flavor: about equal mix of hops and malts, and of bitter and sweet. More hops in the aftertaste.
Feel: medium body and carbonation.
Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, slight murkiness, tight off-white head. Aroma Wort-like aroma with some spicy highlights, and a hint of toffee. Flavor is full-bodied with some caramel sweetness, some toffee-like maltiness, just a touch of citrus bitterness. Mouthfeel has a decent spritz to it. Not bad at all. Clear, medium tannish bronze. Standard 12 oz longneck twistoff. Fair label. Pleasantly acidic and tannic, but buffered. Reasonably hoppy, lightly sweet, this wasn’t fancy but it was serviceable. Bitter, malty finish. Medium body. ABC Liquors, Betton. Frank (4240) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 13, 2014
This has a decent nose but it tastes kind of gross. I’m not into it. It’s a murky brown red w/ a small white head. There is a touch of caramel malt in the nose but it is mostly a pretty nice citrusy hop character that predominates. Taste is more sweet and malty--oversweet in fact. It has a slightly harsh earthy hop bitterness and passes across the palate in a sticky and sluggish way. The first wiff of this had me hopeful but by the end of the bottle, I am pretty sure I will never drink this again.
