12oz bottle from Woodmans. Poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with zero head. Some big chunks of something sank immediately to the bottom. Scent is of wheat and lemon zest. Maybe some orange in there. Taste is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes kind of like a Blue Moon. Medium-light bodied with a thick creamy texture. Soft carbonation and not much finish to speak of. Overall, its not that bad. Loses some points for the random chunks in the bottom which I don’t know what they are yet. 12 ounce bottle from a sampler from Woodman’s West Madison. Pours a hazy peach color with a thin head that fades quickly. Aroma of citrus, pale wheat and a faint coriander spice finish. Pours a slightly hazy (not nearly as much as most Witbiers), pale, nearly yellow gold with a thin, sudsy white head. Aroma is stale malt, rice, a touch of orange and spice. Flavor is orange, soap, sweet malt and a little metal. Palate is light bodied, neutral, a little chalky and a medium, sharp carbonation. Not a great brew, but fairly inoffensive. The label of this says "malt beverage with natural flavors." I am not sure if that is the same thing as a really, really awful take on a Belgian pale but that’s basically what this is. It pours cloudy pale and headless, kind of generally gross and lifeless looking, and smells like apple Jolly Ranchers and Juicy Fruity gum. This beer is something of a paradox too in that it some how combines the worst aspects of being oily and flat w/ being watery and having, sharp prickly carbonation. I am not sure I’d ever see a take on a Belgian style worse than Blue Moon but I will be damned if this isn’t a remarkably heinous drinking experience on par w/ any level of horribleness the beer brewing world has to offer. Poured from the bottle a semi-cloudy yellow color with a big fluffy white head that slowly dissipates. Aroma is a strong wheat nose, slightly of soured malt, light coriander and a faint lemon citrus. Flavor is pretty off putting. The wheat and 2-row barley create a very soured flavor initially but this fades to a mild grain and lemon flavor. Body is low to moderate with high carbonation and a mild creamy feeling. Just can not get into this brew. The flavors are a mess and fail to ever take hold in any resemblance of a good beer. Maybe this brew was just a bit too old from the discount rack.
